Lesego Rampolokeng
Lesego Rampolokeng (born 7 July 1965) is a South African writer, playwright and performance poet. Early life and education Lesego Rampolokeng was born in 1965 in Orlando West, Soweto, Johannesburg. He studied law at the University of the North in South Africa, but he has not followed this path any further. Works Lesego Rampolokeng came to prominence in the 1980s, a very turbulent time in South Africa. He was born and bred in Soweto:"I was born in Orlando West. Bred thorough all across Soweto. Orlando East, White City, Chiawelo, Meadowlands, Diepkloof. Matsemela Manaka
Matsemela Manaka (1956–1998) was a South African playwright, poet, and artist. He began his career in the mid-1970s and was influenced by the ideas of the Black Consciousness Movement. Among his plays, the most distinguished are ''Egoli: City of Gold'' and ''Children of Asazi.'' He won the PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award in 1987. Early life and education Manaka was born on 20 June 1956, in Alexandra, Gauteng, Alexandra township. He attended primary and secondary school in Diepkloof, and spent the majority of his life in Soweto. He then attended Ithumeng Commercial College studying commerce part-time. Manaka desired to attend a university, but the Education_in_South_Africa#1974_to_1983, recently introduced requirement for Afrikaans, which wasn't offered at Ithumeng, was prohibitive. Flora Veit-Wild
Flora Veit-Wild (born 11 May 1947) is a German literary academic, Professor of African Literatures and Cultures at Humboldt University, Berlin. She has published on the Zimbabwean writer Dambudzo Marechera, and on the body and madness in African literature. Life Flora Wild was born in West Germany in 1947, and originally studied French and German languages and literature at university. She first met Dambudzo Marechera in Harare in 1983 in the office of writer and editor Charles Mungoshi. Veit-Wild and Marachere had a relationship, and remained close friends until his death in 1987. Veit-Wild lived in Zimbabwe from 1983 to 1993. In 1986 she met Dieter Riemenschneider in Harare, who subsequently supervised a PhD dissertation by Veit-Wild on the social history of Zimbabwean literature, which she gained in ''Anglistik'' from Frankfurt University in 1991. Dambudzo Marechera
Dambudzo Marechera (4 June 1952 – 18 August 1987) was a Zimbabwean novelist, short story writer, playwright and poet. His short career produced a book of stories, two novels (one published posthumously), a book of plays, prose, and poetry, and a collection of poetry (also posthumous). His first book, a fiction collection entitled '' The House of Hunger'' (1978), won the Guardian Fiction Prize in 1979. Marechera was best known for his abrasive, heavily detailed and self-aware writing, which was considered a new frontier in African literature, and his unorthodox behaviour at the universities from which he was expelled despite excelling in his studies. Lebogang Mashile (born 7 February 1979) is a South African actress, writer and performance poet. Biography The daughter of exiled South African parents, Mashile was born in the United States and returned to South Africa in the mid-1990s after the end of apartheid. She began to study law and international relations at the University of the Witwatersrand but became more interested in the arts. With Myesha Jenkins, Ntsiki Mazwai and Napo Masheane, she founded the poetry group Feela Sistah. She appeared in the 2004 film ''Hotel Rwanda'' and has performed in a number of theatre productions, including ''Threads'', which combined dance, music and poetry. Lefifi Tladi
Lefifi Tladi (born 4 January 1949) is a South African painter, poet, sculptor and musician. As a member of the Black Consciousness Movement, black consciousness movement he was exiled from South Africa in 1976. He lived in exile, primarily in Stockholm, Sweden, until the abolition of apartheid, and in 1997 returned to South Africa for the first time in over 20 years. In 2021 he was awarded the lifetime achievement award by the South African Literary Awards (SALA), South African Literary Awards.
