Les Hanigan
Les Hanigan (born 19 November 1945) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. An Australian international and New South Wales representative , he played club football in Illawarra for Collegians, in Sydney for Manly-Warringah and in North Queensland for Proserpine. A pro runner from Wollongong, Hanigan was selected to represent Southern New South Wales against the touring Great Britain team in 1966, scoring a try. He signed on to play in Sydney's NSWRFL competition with the Manly-Warringah club in 1967. That year he set a new club record for most tries in a match when he scored five tries in a match against competition newcomers, Cronulla-Sutherland. After playing for New South Wales, he scored two tries in Australia's First Test win over New Zealand. Wollongong
Wollongong ( ), colloquially referred to as The Gong, is a city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The name is believed to originate from the Dharawal language, meaning either 'five islands/clouds', 'ground near water' or 'sound of the sea'. Great Britain National Rugby League Team
The Great Britain national rugby league team represents Great Britain in rugby league. Administered by the Rugby Football League (RFL), the team is nicknamed The Lions. For most of the 20th century, the Great Britain team toured overseas, played against foreign touring teams and competed in the Rugby League World Cup, which they won three times: in 1954, 1960 and 1972. Since 1995, the RFL has sent separate home nations teams to the World Cup. Great Britain continued to compete as a Test playing nation both home and away. They competed against Australia for the Ashes, and New Zealand for the Baskerville Shield, as well the Tri-Nations series with both Australia and New Zealand. The introduction of the Cronulla-Sutherland and Penrith clubs saw a total of twelve teams from across the Sydney area compete for the J.J. New Zealand National Rugby League Team
The New Zealand national rugby league team (Māori: Tīma rīki motu Aotearoa) has represented New Zealand in rugby league since 1907. Administered by the New Zealand Rugby League, they are commonly known as the Kiwis, after the native bird of that name.
