American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary Minor league#Ice hockey, developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Since the 2010–11 AHL season, 2010–11 season, every team in the league has an affiliation agreement with one NHL team. When NHL teams do not have an AHL affiliate, players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL teams. Twenty-six AHL teams are located in the United States and the remaining six are in Canada. The league offices are located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and its current president is Scott Howson. Buffalo Bisons (AHL)
The Buffalo Bisons were an American Hockey League ice hockey franchise that played from 1940 to 1970 in Buffalo, New York. They replaced the Buffalo Bisons (IHL), original Buffalo Bisons hockey team, which left the area in 1936 after Peace Bridge Arena, its arena collapsed. Johnny Bower
John William Bower (né Kiszkan; November 8, 1924 – December 26, 2017), nicknamed "The China Wall", was a Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender who won four Stanley Cups during his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Springfield Indians
The Springfield Indians were a minor professional ice hockey franchise, originally based in West Springfield, Massachusetts and later Springfield, Massachusetts. The Indians were founding members of the American Hockey League. They were in existence for a total of 60 seasons from 1926 to 1994, with three interruptions. The Indians had two brief hiatuses from 1933 to 1935, and from 1942 to 1946. The team was known as the Syracuse Warriors from 1951 to 1954; in addition, the team was named the Springfield Kings from 1967 to 1975. Ross Lowe
Ross Robert Lowe (September 21, 1928 in Oshawa, Ontario – August 8, 1955) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played three seasons in the National Hockey League from 1949–50 NHL season, 1949 to 1951–52 NHL season, 1952 for the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. Lowe scored his first NHL goal on November 15, 1950 as a member of the Boston Bruins in his team's 4-3 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Lowe played 77 career NHL games, scoring six goals and eight assists for fourteen points. In his last professional season, he played for the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League and managed to score 82 points in only 60 games, which earned him the Les Cunningham Award as league MVP. George Sullivan (ice Hockey)
George James "Red" Sullivan (December 24, 1929 – January 19, 2019) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1949 to 1961. After finishing his playing career Sullivan became a coach, serving in that role between 1962 and 1975. Playing career George "Red" Sullivan began his NHL career with the Boston Bruins (1949–1953). He also played for the Chicago Black Hawks (1954–1956) and the New York Rangers (1956–1961). Sullivan led the Chicago Black Hawks in scoring in the two years he played with them. Sullivan was severely injured, and very nearly killed, when defenceman Doug Harvey of the Montreal Canadiens speared him in the stomach, rupturing his spleen, where a Catholic priest was even brought to the hospital to deliver his last rites, however Sullivan survived and resumed his career with the New York Rangers. Eddie Olson
Edward F. Olson (January 1, 1922 – February 10, 1995) was an American ice hockey player, born in Hancock, Michigan. He was one of nine brothers from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, all of whom played college, amateur, pro or Olympic hockey. Olson started his hockey career playing amateur for the Marquette Sentinels. He soon moved to the Coast Guard Cutters, playing two seasons with other hockey stars like John Mariucci and Frank Brimsek before being shipped out in 1944. Olson played professionally in the American Hockey League for the St. Louis Flyers (1946–1951) and the Cleveland Barons (1951–1955). He was the first American-born player to win the league scoring title in 1953, as well as earning MVP that same year.
