Les Cowie
Leslie Gordon Cowie (17 May 1925 – 20 May 1995) was an Australian rugby league footballer, a fine for the champion South Sydney Rabbitohs teams of the 1950s and an Australia national rugby league team, Australia national representative. In 1994 he received a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to Rugby League football. Club career Nicknamed "Chicka", Cowie debuted with Souths in 1947. Cowie's career with South Sydney Rabbitohs stretched from 1947 to 1957, during which he played in ''five'' premiership winning teams. In all he played 178 first grade games for Souths. In 2004 he was named by the Souths in their ''South Sydney Dream Team'', consisting of 17 players and a coach representing the club from New South Wales Rugby League season 1908, 1908 through to National Rugby League season 2004, 2004. Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. City New South Wales Rugby League Team
The Sydney Rugby League team, known as the City Rugby League team, or Combined Sydney, or Sydney Firsts, or Sydney Capitals, is a representative rugby league team. From 2021, the men's team is to consist of players selected from the New South Wales Rugby League Ron Massey Cup competition to play against a combined team selected from Country, New South Wales competitions. The women's team is selected on a region of origin basis from the NSWRL Women's Premiership. The reorganisation in 2021 means the Sydney / City team is selected from a third-tier competition, as the Ron Massey Cup sits below the first-tier National Rugby League and the second-tier New South Wales Cup. 1951 French Rugby League Tour Of Australia And New Zealand
The 1951 French rugby league tour of Australia and New Zealand was the first ever tour of Australasia by any French sports team in history. Puig Aubert captained the France national rugby league team who played 28 matches in total in both Australia and New Zealand, winning 21 of them in what is regarded as the high point in the history of rugby league in France. The Australian Test series resulted in a 2–1 victory to France; however, the tourists then lost their match against the New Zealand national rugby league team. Welcoming the team home to Marseille, more than 150,000 people turned out for a street parade. The France national rugby league team represent France in international rugby league matches. They are referred to as ''les Chanticleers'' or less commonly as ''les Tricolores''. The team is run under the auspices of the Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII. The French rugby league team first played in 1934 on a tour of England. They have taken part in all World Cups, 16 in total, with the first being held in 1954 in France. They have never won the title but finished runners-up in both 1954 and 1968. These are often considered the glory years of French rugby league as from the 1950s to the 1970s the team were strong and regularly beat Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain. Since those days, ''les Chanticleers'' have not done as well with their nadir occurring at the 1995 World Cup when they failed to win a single match.
