Leopoldo Torre-Nilsson
Leopoldo Torre Nilsson (5 May 1924 – 8 September 1978), also known as Leo Towers and as Babsy, was an Argentine film director, producer and screenwriter. Born as Leopoldo Torres Nilsson (he later changed his paternal surname from Torres to Torre) was the son of Argentine pioneer film director Leopoldo Torres Ríos, with whom he collaborated between 1939 and 1949. He debuted in 1947 with the short ''El muro''. His mother was an Argentinian citizen of Swedish descent. His uncle was cinematographer Carlos Torres Ríos (1898–1956). Torre Nilsson's first full-length film, ''El crimen de Oribe'' (1950), was an adaptation of Adolfo Bioy Casares's novel ''El perjurio de la nieve''. In 1954 he directed '' Días de odio'', based on Jorge Luis Borges's short story '' Emma Zunz''. Martín Miguel de Güemes (8 February 1785 – 17 June 1821) was a military leader and popular caudillo who defended northwestern Argentina from the Spanish royalist army during the Argentine War of Independence. Biography Güemes was born in Salta into a wealthy family. His father, Gabriel de Güemes Montero, born in Santander, in the Spanish province of Cantabria, was a learned man and was serving as royal treasurer of the Spanish crown. He got his son to have a good education with private teachers who taught him philosophical and scientific knowledge of his time. His mother was María Magdalena de Goyechea y la Corte, born in Salta. The film was entered into the 10th Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or prize. The film is considered a turning point in the history of Argentine cinema, as its international success contributed to the development of more national productions. It was selected as the second greatest Argentine film of all time in a poll conducted by the Museo del Cine Pablo Ducrós Hicken in 1977, while it ranked 6th in the 1984 edition and 10th in the 2000 edition. Beatriz Guido
Beatriz Guido (13 December 1924 – 4 March 1988) was an Argentine novelist and screenwriter. Biography Guido was born in Rosario, Santa Fe Province, the daughter of architect Ángel Guido (renowned as the creator of the National Flag Memorial) and of Uruguayan actress Berta Eirin. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires. She wrote her first novel, ''La casa del ángel'', in 1954. She also wrote a short story named ''Usurpacion''. Because of her outspoken anti-Peronism, she was branded a "right-wing writer" and a "false aristocrat" by the government of Juan Perón. In 1959 she married film director and screenwriter Leopoldo Torre Nilsson. She started working with her husband, who took several of her works to the screen.
