Leopold Von Mildenstein
Leopold Itz, Edler von Mildenstein (30 November 1902 – November 1968) was an SS officer who is remembered as a lead supporter in the Nazi Party of some of the aims of Zionism during the 1930s. He sometimes worked as a writer and signed using his initials, LIM. In English he has sometimes been called a "baron" although his rank of ''Edler'' meant "nobleman" and has no exact equivalent; perhaps the nearest translation is "Esquire". After the Second World War, Mildenstein continued to live in West Germany, where he joined the Free Democratic Party and was elected to its Press Committee. In 1956, he went to Egypt to work for a radio station, and after the capture of Adolf Eichmann in 1960 he claimed immunity as an intelligence agent of the US Central Intelligence Agency, a claim which was neither confirmed nor denied. Nothing was heard of him after 1964, when he published a book on cocktails. Life up to 1945 Born in 1902 in Prague, then part of Austria-Hungary, von Mildenstein be ...

Edler
Edler () was until 1919 the lowest rank of nobility in Austria-Hungary and Germany, just beneath a ''Ritter'' (hereditary knight), but above untitled nobles, who used only the nobiliary particle ''von'' before their surname. It was mostly given to civil servants and military officers, as well as those upon whom the lower rank of an Order had been conferred. The noun ''Edler'' comes from the adjective ''edel'' ("noble"), and translated literally means "noble erson. In accordance with the rules of German grammar, the word can also appear as ''Edle'', ''Edlem'', or ''Edlen'' depending on case, gender, and number. Originally, from the Middle Ages, under the feudal system (in Europe and elsewhere), the nobility were generally those who held a fief, often in the form of heritable land worked by vassals. To preserve the feudal naming practice, even in cases where upper-ranking bureaucrats received patents of nobility for long service or merit, as in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centu ...

It is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering. Civil engineering can take place in the public sector from municipal public works departments through to federal government agencies, and in the private sector from locally based firms to global Fortune 500 companies. The Transfer Agreement
''The Transfer Agreement: The Dramatic Story of the Pact Between the Third Reich and Jewish Palestine'' is a book written by author Edwin Black, documenting the transfer agreement ("Haavara Agreement" in Hebrew) between Zionist organizations and Nazi Germany to transfer a number of Jews and their assets to Palestine. Shortly after Samuel Untermyer's return to the U.S. from Germany in 1933, articles appeared on the front page of newspapers in London and New York declaring that "Judea declares war on Germany". This resulted in an effective boycott of German goods in many countries, affecting German exports significantly. The agreement was partly inspired by this boycott which appeared to threaten the Reich. Controversial as it may be seen in hindsight, it marked one of the few rescues of Jews and their assets in the years leading up to the Holocaust. Main thesis This book documents the agreement between Nazi Germany and an organization of German Zionists in 1933 to salvage some G ...

Homeland For The Jewish People
A homeland for the Jewish people is an idea rooted in Jewish history, religion, and culture. The Jewish aspiration to return to Zion, generally associated with divine redemption, has suffused Jewish religious thought since the destruction of the First Temple and the Babylonian exile. History In the early 19th century, the Napoleonic Wars led to the idea of Jewish emancipation. In the late 19th century, Theodor Herzl, who saw contemporary antisemitism as a reaction to Jewish emancipation, set out his vision of the restoration of a Jewish state and sovereign homeland for the Jewish nation in his book ''Der Judenstaat''. Herzl was later hailed by the Zionist political parties as the founding father of the State of Israel. Although persecution of Jews was not limited to Europe, the modern movement for the creation of a secular homeland was perceived as a solution to the especially widespread antisemitism within Europe. This became a centerpiece of secular political Zionism. ...

The Tyranny Of Guilt
''The Tyranny of Guilt: An Essay on Western Masochism'' (french: La tyrannie de la pénitence. Essai sur le masochisme occidental) is a book by Pascal Bruckner about the origin and political impact of the contemporary political culture of Western guilt. It was published in French in 2006 as ''La Tyrannie de la Pénitence: Essai sur le Masochisme Occidental'' and in English in 2010. Roger Kimball regards ''Tyranny of Guilt'' as a sequel to Bruckner's 1983 book '' The Tears of the White Man''. Richard Wolin preferred to describe it as a "pendant," a revisiting of the theme of ''Tears of the White Man.'' Themes Bruckner acknowledges Western sins including racism and slavery, but points out that the west is also responsible for the creation of such things as civil liberties, modern democratic government and abolitionism. "There is no doubt," Bruckner writes, "that Europe has given birth to monsters, but at the same time it has given birth to theories that make it possible to under ...
