Leonid Petrovich Tatarinov
Leonid Petrovich Tatarinov (russian: Леонид Петрович Татаринов; November 12, 1926 — August 24, 2011) was a Russian and Soviet paleontologist and evolutionary biologist. He was an Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1981) and Russian Academy of Sciences (1991), director of the Paleontological Institute (1975 - 1992) and editor-in-chief of ''Paleontological journal'' (russian: Палеонтологический журнал) (1976 - 2001). His research interests were in the comparative anatomy of vertebrates, tetrapod phylogeny, and evolution. Tatarinov became interested in science from his school years but he was conscripted into the army at the age of 17 in 1943 but discharged in 1944 after suffering from an infection. Tula ( rus, Тула, p=ˈtulə) is the largest city and the administrative center of Tula Oblast in Russia, located south of Moscow. Tula is located in the northern Central Russian Upland on the banks of the Upa River, a tributary of the Oka. Evolutionary biology is the subfield of biology that studies the evolutionary processes (natural selection, common descent, speciation) that produced the diversity of life on Earth. It is also defined as the study of the history of life forms on Earth. Evolution is based on the theory that all species are related and they gradually change over time. Evgeni Pavlovich Spangenberg
Evgeni Pavlovich Spangenberg (25 February 1898 – 25 July 1968) was a Soviet ornithologist and the author of several popular natural history books. Spangenberg was born in Andrianovka and because his father Pavel worked in the railways, there was much travel and he grew up in St Petersburg and then Akhtuba in the Lower Volga region where the rich steppe wildlife made him interested in birds and hunting. He graduated from the Irkutsk Gymnasium and moved to Ukraine, working in the railway workshops in Zaporozhye before he joined the Red Army in 1919. After demobilization in 1921, with the loss of hearing in one ear, he joined Moscow University in 1922, graduated in 1930 after nearly being expelled (and being helped by A.F. Georgi Petrovich Dementiev (russian: Гео́ргий Петро́вич Деме́нтьев; 5 July, 1898 – 14 April, 1969) was a Soviet and Russian ornithologist and professor at the University of Moscow. His studies based on museum collections and collaboration with others, notably N. A. Gladkov, resulted in a major six-volume work on the birds of the Soviet Union which was published between 1951 and 1954. Dementiev was born in Petergof, where his father was a physician. Ivan Ivanovich Schmalhausen (russian: Ива́н Ива́нович Шмальга́узен; April 23, 1884 – October 7, 1963) was a Ukrainian, Russian and later Soviet zoologist and evolutionary biologist of German descent. Aleksandr Fyodorovich Kots (German form Alexander Erich Kohts) (19 April 1880 – 7 September 1964) was a Soviet and Russian zoologist and founding director of the State Darwin Museum in Moscow. His wife was the animal behaviourist Nadezhda Ladygina-Kohts. Kots was born in Borisoglebsk, Tambov to Berlin-born linguist and botanist Alfred Kots and Evgenia (Johanna) Alexandrovna née Grassman. Tetrapods (; ) are four-limbed vertebrate animals constituting the superclass Tetrapoda (). It includes extant and extinct amphibians, sauropsids ( reptiles, including dinosaurs and therefore birds) and synapsids (pelycosaurs, extinct therapsids and all extant mammals).
