Leonhard Merzin
Leonhard Merzin (10 February 1934 in Aruküla, Kudina Parish (now Maardla, Mustvee Parish) – 2 January 1990 in Tartu) was an Estonian theatre and film actor, one of the Estonian actors active in the Soviet Union and abroad. He played in more than 50 films. His most notable role in Estonia is "Teacher Laur" in ''Spring'' (''Kevade'') and as Edgar in Soviet Union adaption of King Lear ('' Korol Lir''). Biography From 1952 to 1954 Merzin studied at the Tartu Art School Tartu Art School ( et, Tartu Kunstikool) is an upper secondary vocational art school in the city of Tartu, Estonia. King Lear (1971 USSR Film)
''King Lear'' (russian: Король Лир, Korol Lir) is a 1971 Soviet drama film directed by Grigori Kozintsev, based on William Shakespeare's play ''King Lear''. The film uses Boris Pasternak's translation of the play, while the Fool's songs are translated by Samuil Marshak. This was the last of Grigori Kozintsev's films. Production Grigori Kozintsev considered many actors for the role of Lear. The casting director first suggested Jüri Järvet for the small part of a tramp, but Kozintsev offered him the title role. He later explained: "The internal world of this actor seemed attractive to me. This is an actor of deep thought. He is able to play the role with philosophical depth. Järvet is equally strong in humour, in that particular sort of humour that sometimes touches upon grotesque". Järvet was only 50 years old by the time of filming. Donald Crowhurst
Donald Charles Alfred Crowhurst (1932 – July 1969) was a British businessman and amateur sailor who disappeared while competing in the ''Sunday Times'' Golden Globe Race, a single-handed, round-the-world yacht race. Soon after he started the race his ship began taking on water and he wrote that it would probably sink in heavy seas. He secretly abandoned the race while reporting false positions, in an attempt to appear to complete a circumnavigation without actually doing so. His ship's logbooks, found after his disappearance, suggest that the stress he was under and associated psychological deterioration may have led to his suicide. Crowhurst's participation in the race has exerted a fascination over many commentators and artists. ''Trust'' ( fi, Luottamus; russian: Доверие, Doverie) is a 1976 Finnish-Soviet historical drama film directed by Edvin Laine and Viktor Tregubovich. The film portrays the events leading up to the Finnish Declaration of Independence from Russia in 1917 and especially the role of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin in them. The main roles are played by Kirill Lavrov as Lenin and Vilho Siivola as P. E. Svinhufvud. Edvin Laine received the state film artist award for the film, and Vilho Siivola received the Jussi Award for best actor.
