Leonas Baltrūnas
Leonas Baltrūnas (20 October 1914 – 20 April 1993) was a Lithuanian basketball player and coach. He won two gold medals with Lithuania national basketball team during EuroBasket 1937 and EuroBasket 1939. Biography In 1937 he graduated Kaunas Highs physical education courses, taught in Higher Technical School. Baltrūnas became interested in basketball in 1935 when he met with the basketball coach from the U.S. Konstantinas Savickas. He was member of Lithuania national basketball team (1936–1940) and participated in two EuroBaskets: EuroBasket 1937 and EuroBasket 1939. He won two gold medals during both competitions. In 1944 he moved to Germany, in 1949 he settled in Australia. In 1950 he organized Lithuanians basketball championship in Melbourne for the first time, established Lithuanians sports club "Varpas" and was physical education chairman. EuroBasket 1939
The 1939 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1939, was the third FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Eight national teams affiliated with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) took part in the competition. Defending champions Lithuania hosted the tournament, held in Kaunas Sports Hall. EuroBasket
EuroBasket, also commonly referred to as the European Basketball Championship, is the main international basketball competition that is contested quadrennially, by the senior men's national teams that are governed by FIBA Europe, which is the European zone within the International Basketball Federation. The competition was first held in 1935. The former Soviet Union holds the record for most gold medals with a total of 14. The tournament is generally held in August or September, in the offseason of major club competitions. The current defending champion is Spain, who won the 2022 title. Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis
Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis ( pl, Mikołaj Konstanty Czurlanis – ) was a Lithuanian painter, composer and writer. Čiurlionis contributed to symbolism and art nouveau, and was representative of the fin de siècle epoch. He has been considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in Europe. During his short life, he composed about 400 pieces of music and created about 300 paintings, as well as many literary works and poems. The majority of his paintings are housed in the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. His works have had a profound influence on modern Lithuanian culture.
