Leonardo Da Vinci International Art Award
The Leonardo da Vinci International Award ( it, Premio Internazionale Leonardo da Vinci) is an annual international prize named after Leonardo da Vinci, to award outstanding achievement by young people involved in the study of the sciences, technology, literature and the arts. Among the disciplines recognised and rewarded so far have been painting, sculpture, music, geology, architecture, medicine and nuclear physics. Its previous laureates include musicians Evelyn Glennie and Leonidas Kavakos. History The Leonardo da Vinci International Award was founded in 1975 by the Rotary Club of Florence in collaboration with the Athens, Tours and Wien-Ring Rotary Clubs. Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (15 April 14522 May 1519) was an Italian polymath of the High Renaissance who was active as a painter, Drawing, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. While his fame initially rested on his achievements as a painter, he also became known for #Journals and notes, his notebooks, in which he made drawings and notes on a variety of subjects, including anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, painting, and paleontology. Alma Deutscher
Alma Elizabeth Deutscher (born 19 February 2005) is a British composer, pianist and violinist. A child prodigy, Deutscher composed her first piano sonata at the age of five. At seven, she completed the short opera, ''The Sweeper of Dreams''. Aged nine, she wrote a violin concerto. At the age of ten, she wrote her first full-length opera, ''Cinderella'', which had its European premiere in Vienna in 2016 under the patronage of conductor Zubin Mehta, and its U.S. premiere a year later. Deutscher's piano concerto was premiered when she was 12. She has lived in Vienna, Austria since 2018. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2019 in a concert dedicated to her own composition. Boyan Slat
Boyan Slat (born 27 July 1994) is a Dutch inventor and entrepreneur. A former aerospace engineering student, he is the CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. Initial interest in plastic pollution In 2011, aged 16, Slat found more plastic than fish while diving. He made ocean plastic pollution the subject of a high school project examining why it was considered impossible to clean up. He later came up with the idea of building a passive plastic catchment system, using circulating ocean currents to net plastic waste, which he presented at a TEDx talk in Delft in 2012. Slat discontinued his aerospace engineering studies at TU Delft to devote his time to developing his idea. David OReilly (born 1985) is an Irish artist, film maker and game developer based in Los Angeles, California, US. Work Animation OReilly began his animation career at the age of 14, where he worked at Cartoon Saloon. Aside from a 1-minute film entitled ''Ident'', from which he draws his logo, the earliest work available on his website is ''WOFL2106''. This short draws equally on original designs and popular internet memes to create a disturbing landscape of serenity juxtaposed with chaos. This film sets the tone for his entire œuvre, though the direct inclusion of outside memes disappears in his later work. He created several animation sequences and props for the 2007 film ''Son of Rambow'', as well as animation for the "guide" sequences in ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'', with Shynola. Roberto Vittori
Brigadier Roberto Vittori, OMRI (born 15 October 1964, in Viterbo) is an Italian Air Force officer and an ESA astronaut. After graduating from the Italian Accademia Aeronautica in 1989, Vittori flew in the Italian Air Force. He then trained as a test pilot in the United States. In 1998, Vittori was selected by the ESA to join the European Astronaut Corps. Since then, he has participated in three spaceflights: the Soyuz TM-34/ 33 and Soyuz TMA-6/ 5 taxi flights to the ISS, as well as STS-134, the penultimate mission of the American Space Shuttle Program in 2011. Johan Schmidt (born 5 October 1964) is a Belgian pianist. Ingeborg Hochmair
Ingeborg J. Hochmair-Desoyer (born 1953) is an Austrian electrical engineer and the CEO and CTO of hearing implant company MED-EL. Dr Hochmair and her husband Prof. Erwin Hochmair co-created the first micro-electronic multi-channel cochlear implant in the world. She received the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award for her contributions towards the development of the modern cochlear implant. She also received the 2015 Russ Prize for bioengineering.
