Leonard W. Buck
Leonard W. Buck (July 8, 1834 - June 4, 1895) was an American businessman, rancher and politician. Early life Leonard W. Buck was born on July 8, 1834, in Trenton, New York. He was raised on a farm and educated at the Courtland Academy in Homer, New York. During the American Civil War, he served as a Lieutenant in Company H, 175th New York Infantry Regiment from 1862 to 1863. Buck eventually resigned the military in February 1863 due to poor health. Career Buck was a salesman of hardware goods in Clinton, Iowa from 1865 to 1873. He lost "all he processed" during the financial panic of 1873. Buck established a 166-acre ranch from a plot of land known as Weldon Rancho in Vacaville, California in 1874. He also established a ranch in Lodi, California (400 acres purchased from B.F. Truxton, New York
Truxton is a town in Cortland County, New York, United States. The population was 1,133 at the 2010 census. The town is named for Commodore Thomas Truxtun, a privateer in the American Revolution and one of the US Navy's first commanding officers. Truxton is in the northeastern part of the county, northeast of the city of Cortland. History The region that includes Cortland County was part of the Central New York Military Tract. The first settler arrived around 1793. The town of Truxton was formed from part of the town of Fabius (in Onondaga County) when Cortland County was created in 1808. An addition was made in 1811 to Truxton from the town of Solon. In 1858, part of Truxton was used to form the town of Cuyler. In 1865, the population was 1,689. The Truxton Depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Vacaville is a city located in Solano County in Northern California. Sitting approximately from Sacramento and from San Francisco, it is within the Sacramento Valley. As of the 2020 census, Vacaville had a population of 102,386, making it the third largest city in Solano County.
