Leon De Meyere
Leon De Meyere (died 28 December 1630) was a poet from Antwerp about whom very little is known. Life and writing His earliest known work, which identifies him as a licentiate of laws, was a poem in French celebrating the reception of Archduke Ernest of Austria as governor general of the Habsburg Netherlands in 1594, ''Prosopopée d'Anvers à la bienvenue du Sérénissime prince Ernest''. Four years later, at the reception of Albert and Isabella as rulers of the Habsburg Netherlands, he brought out ''Poëme. Advis pour la paix de Belgique'' (1598), a policy paper in verse. This was a controversial piece that elicited an unfavourable ''Responce au Poeme d'advis pour la paix Belgique'' (1598). In 1599 De Meyere was appointed provost of the church of St Pharaildis in Ghent. Plantin-Moretus Museum
The Plantin-Moretus Museum ( nl, Plantin-Moretusmuseum) is a printing museum in Antwerp, Belgium which focuses on the work of the 16th-century printers Christophe Plantin and Jan Moretus. It is located in their former residence and printing establishment, the Plantin Press, at the Vrijdagmarkt (Friday Market) in Antwerp, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. History The printing company was founded in the 16th century by Christophe Plantin, who obtained type from the leading typefounders of the day in Paris. Plantin was a major figure in contemporary printing with interests in humanism; his eight-volume, multi-language Plantin Polyglot Bible with Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Syriac texts was one of the most complex productions of the period. It was published by the Royal Academy of Belgium in 44 volumes between 1866 and 1986. Hieronymus Verdussen
Verdussen was a dynasty of printers in Antwerp, starting with Hieronymus Verdussen I in the late sixteenth century, and ending around 1800. Many other printers in Antwerp were also related to the Verdussens through marriage. They specialized in religious works and works in Spanish, but also published newspapers, almanachs, poetry, scientific works, .... By the end of the 17th century, they produced about 21% of the Spanish books printed in the Netherlands, and with 5 presses was second only to Moretus in Antwerp. Arnout Coninx
Arnout Coninx (1548–1617) was a printer and bookseller in the city of Antwerp from 1579 until his death in 1617. In 1586 he was fined for unlicensed printing, and in 1591 he was investigated for selling forbidden books. When the city of Antwerp had been reconquered for Philip II of Spain in 1585, Protestants had been given four years to settle their affairs and leave or be reconciled to the Catholic Church. Panegyric
A panegyric ( or ) is a formal public speech or written verse, delivered in high praise of a person or thing. The original panegyrics were speeches delivered at public events in ancient Athens. Etymology The word originated as a compound of grc, παν- 'all' (the form taken by the word πᾶν, neuter of πᾶς 'all', when that is used as a prefix) and the word grc, ἄγυρις, ágyris 'assembly' (an Aeolic dialect form, corresponding to the Attic or Ionic form grc, ἀγορά, agorá).
