Leon Chagnon
Leon Wilbur Chagnon (September 28, 1902 – July 30, 1953) was a professional baseball pitcher. He played all or part of six seasons in Major League Baseball, between 1929 and 1935, for the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Giants. Chagon died on July 30, 1935, and was buried in Mount Prospect Cemetery in Amesbury, Massachusetts Amesbury is a city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, located on the left bank of the Merrimack River near its mouth, upstream from Salisbury and across the river from Newburyport and West Newbury. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
