Leo Seward
Leo Malachi "Sammy" Seward (3 November 1885 – 1 April 1941) was an all-round athlete, who played Australian rules football with University in the Victorian Football League (VFL) where, "among his contemporaries, he was regarded as the cleverest follower of his day". Rochester, Victoria
Rochester is a small town in rural Victoria, Australia. It is located north of Melbourne with a mixture of rural and semi-rural communities on the northern Campaspe River, between Bendigo and the Murray River port of Echuca. At the , Rochester had a population of 3,154. History The area around the Campaspe River was known as Yalooka, which for thousands of years was home to the Pinpandoor, the local tribe of Aboriginal Australians. Rochester (via ''Rowechester'') was named after Dr John Pearson Rowe, who had a hotel here before the township was gazetted in 1855. The Post Office opened on 11 May 1863 and the town was reached by the railway line from Bendigo (connecting it to Melbourne) in 1864. The Rochester Magistrates' Court closed on 1 January 1990. Gordon Rattray
Gordon Kitchener Rattray (19 October 1898 – 10 December 1964) was an Australian rules footballer who played with and coached Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was the first VFL player to use the torpedo punt. Family The son of Bruce Rattray (1860–1932) and Laura Rattray, née Barratt, Gordon Kitchener Rattray was born at Shepparton on 19 October 1898. He married Janet Elizabeth Wharton on 29 June 1922. They were divorced in 1938. He married Sylvia Catherine Burnet (1904–1980) in 1939. Education He was educated at Wesley College. Military service He enlisted in the First AIF on 21 April 1917. Frank Caine
Frank Caine (28 July 1881 – 19 January 1930) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League. Football Caine made his debut for the Carlton Football Club against St Kilda in Round 7 of the 1905 season. He went on to play 80 games and kick 147 goals for the Blues. In a huge coup for North Melbourne, Caine was poached from Carlton in early 1910 along with ‘Mallee’ Johnson, Fred Jinks, and Charlie Hammond. He helped North to their third VFA premiership in 1910, and also topped the Association's goalkicking standings for that season, kicking a new record of 75 goals (including finals). Albert Ernst Victor Hartkopf (28 December 1889 – 20 May 1968) was an Australian sportsman who played Test cricket for Australia and Australian rules football for Melbourne University Football Club. Thomas Alexander Ogilvie (7 January 1887 – 18 August 1915) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the University Football Club and Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Edward Rae Cordner (18 June 1887 – 21 July 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne and University in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Harry Cordner
Henry Cordner (17 June 1885 – 14 November 1943) was an Australian rules footballer who played with both the Melbourne Football Club and the Melbourne University Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
