Leo L. Laughlin
Leo L. Laughlin (September 10, 1910 – April 13, 1997) was an American law enforcement officer and businessman who worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and served as Massachusetts' Commissioner of Public Safety. Early life Laughlin was born on September 10, 1910, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws degree from The Catholic University of America. FBI career Laughlin joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation on December 2, 1935. He was recommended for the job by U.S. Senator Joseph F. Guffey and U.S. Representative James H. Gildea. His first assignment was as a special agent in the Boston field office. In 1937 he transferred to the New York office. On January 9, 1938, he was designated the Number One Man of the Newark office. Richard Caples
Richard Robert Caples (December 23, 1921 – April 28, 2002) was an American politician who served as Massachusetts public safety commissioner. Early life Caples was born on December 23, 1921, in Boston. He attended the Brighton High School, Princeton University, and the Boston University School of Law. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Naval Reserve for 27 years. Political career Caples was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1951 to 1959 and the Massachusetts Senate from 1959 to 1963. He then served as a legislative aide to Massachusetts Governor Endicott Peabody. Public safety Commissioner Peabody lost his reelection bid in 1964 and spent his final days appointing aides to government positions. Edmund Leo McNamara (1920-2000) was an American law enforcement officer and professional football player who served as commissioner of the Boston Police Department. Early life McNamara was born on April 13, 1920 in Boston. He grew up in Clinton, Massachusetts and attended Clinton High School. He played tackle on Clinton's undefeated 1938 football team. Football career and military service McNamara attended the College of the Holy Cross on an athletic scholarship. He was selected by the New York Giants in the 27th round of the 1943 NFL Draft. That same year he graduated from Holy Cross with a bachelor's degree in education. During World War II, McNamara served in the United States Navy as a Lt. Harry Dexter White (October 29, 1892 – August 16, 1948) was a senior U.S. Treasury department official. Working closely with the Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau Jr., he helped set American financial policy toward the Allies of World War II. He was later accused of espionage by passing information to the Soviet Union. He was a senior American official at the 1944 Bretton Woods conference that established the postwar economic order.
