Leo Erdody
Leo Erdody (December 17, 1888 – April 5, 1949) was an American film composer of Hungarian descent. He studied music in Germany, and later went to Hollywood, scoring his first film in 1921. He later joined Producers Releasing Corporation and scored several films for them. For his work on '' Minstrel Man'', he was a nominee for an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Early life and career Erdody was born in Chicago on December 17, 1888. His father was a conductor in Hungary. It was possible that Leo had noble ancestry, which is why he occasionally billed himself solely by his surname. Erdody studied in Berlin under teachers including Joseph Joachim and Max Bruch. He worked in Europe for an early part of his career, but soon returned to the United States. Erdody's first work as composer was the 1928 film '' Lilac Time''. Miraculous Journey
''Miraculous Journey'' is a 1948 film about seven airplane passengers who find themselves stranded in an African jungle after their plane crashes. It was directed by Sam Newfield, under the pseudonym of Peter Stewart. The film stars Rory Calhoun and Virginia Grey. Plot A group of seven people - an actress, a blind girl, a financier, a gangster, an heiress, a hostess, and a pilot - survive an airplane crash to find themselves deserted in an African jungle. The group come across an old hermit who has been living on the island for a while. The hermit teaches them how to survive in the jungle, though the unrepentant gangster is eaten by a crocodile. Eventually, a member of the group named Larry uses a canoe to get off the island. Larry locates a helicopter and flies back to the island, where he picks up the rest of the group. Sam Newfield, born Samuel Neufeld, (December 6, 1899 - November 10, 1964), also known as Sherman Scott or Peter Stewart, was an American B-movie Film director, director, one of the most prolific in American film history—he is credited with directing over 250 feature films in a career which began during the silent era and ended in 1958. In addition to his staggering feature output, he also directed one -and two-reel comedy Short film, shorts, training films, industrial films, TV episodes and pretty much anything anyone would pay him for. Because of this massive output—he would sometimes direct more than 20 films in a single year—he has been called the most prolific director of the sound era. Ferdinand Rudolph von Grofé, known as Ferde Grofé (March 27, 1892 April 3, 1972) (pronounced FUR-dee GROW-fay) was an American composer, arrangement, arranger, pianist and instrumentalist. He is best known for his 1931 five-movement tone poem, ''Grand Canyon Suite'', and for having orchestrated George Gershwin's ''Rhapsody in Blue'' prior to its 1924 premiere. The screenplay was adapted by Martin Goldsmith and Martin Mooney (uncredited) from Goldsmith's 1939 novel of the same title, and released by the Producers Releasing Corporation, one of the so-called Poverty Row film studios in mid-20th-century Hollywood. In 1992, ''Detour'' was selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
