LensCulture
''LensCulture'' is a photography network and online magazine about contemporary photography in art, media, politics, commerce and popular cultures worldwide. It is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. ''LensCulture'' sponsors international photography awards and grants several times per year, as well as traveling exhibitions of photography. It published its first publication, ''The Best of LensCulture, Volume 1,'' in 2017. Management The organization was founded in 2004 by its editor Jim Casper, who moved its editorial offices to Paris from Berkeley in 2005. As of 2018, its staff is spread across Amsterdam, Berkeley, California and other locations around the world. Julia Gunther
Julia Gunther (born 1979) is a photographer and cinematographer who makes documentary projects. From 2003 to 2008, Gunther worked as electrician or lighting assistant on films such as ''Black Book (film), Black Book'' (2006) and ''Nothing to Lose'' (2008). Since then she has made an ongoing photography series called ''Proud Women of Africa.'' She lives in Amsterdam but travels for her photography. Life and work Gunther was born in 1979 in Berlin, Berlin, Germany. She graduated from University of the Arts London, University of the Arts, London in 2003 with a degree in Film and Video studies. Maciej Dakowicz
Maciej Dakowicz (born 20 November 1976) is a Polish street photographer, photojournalist and gallerist. He is from Białystok in North East Poland. Dakowicz is best known for his series of photographs of Cardiff night-life titled ''Cardiff after Dark''. He and others set up and ran Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff and he was a member of the In-Public street photography collective. Life and work Dakowicz studied computer science in Poland (2000). He lived in Cardiff, Wales, between 2004 and 2012, where he worked and studied for his PhD at the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales) (2010) where he also worked. He left work at the university in 2009 and completed his PhD in 2010. In 2010 he set up and ran Third Floor Gallery along with Joni Karanka and Bartosz Nowicki. Laura Pannack
Laura Pannack (born 12 June 1985) is a British social documentary and portrait photographer, based in London. Pannack's work is often of children and teenagers. Her work has been shown in three solo exhibitions and contributed to a couple of publications. She has received a number of awards, including a first place in the World Press Photo Awards in 2010, the Vic Odden Award from the Royal Photographic Society in 2012, and the John Kobal New Work Award in 2014. Education and career Pannack gained a degree in editorial photography at the University of Brighton; studied a foundation course in painting at Central Saint Martins College of Art, London; and studied a foundation course at London College of Communication. Yijun Liao
Yijun Liao, also known as Pixy Liao, is a Chinese artist, living in New York City. Biography Liao was born in Shanghai. She currently lives in Brooklyn. Liao received an MFA in photography from the University of Memphis. She is mostly known for her series ''Experimental Relationship.'' The series depicts her with her younger Japanese partner, Moro. The elaborate photography depicted challenges gender norms in regards to media and sexual expression. Her photography attempts to change the way society sees nudity and media through the lens of a whole new perspective. Rencontres D'Arles
The Rencontres d’Arles (formerly called ''Rencontres internationales de la photographie d’Arles'') is an annual summer photography festival founded in 1970 by the Arles photographer Lucien Clergue, the writer Michel Tournier and the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette. The Rencontres d’Arles has an international reputation for showing material that has never been seen by the public before. In 2015, the festival welcomed 93,000 visitors; in 2016, the 100,000 visitor mark was reached. Specially designed exhibitions, often organised in collaboration with French and foreign museums and institutions, take place in various historic sites. Panos Pictures is a photo agency based in London and founded in 1986. It specialises in stories about global social issues for international media and NGOs using photography and video. It also produces exhibitions and long-term documentary projects. As of September 2015, Adrian Evans is its director and has a controlling share in the company. Dougie Wallace
Dougie Wallace, also known as Glasweegee, is a Scottish street photographer from Glasgow, based in east London. He has had five books of his work published and been awarded Second Prize in the Portraiture category of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards. Life and work Wallace was born and raised in Glasgow. He lived in Blackpool for a couple of years in the 1980s before enlisting in the army. He has lived in Shoreditch, east London, for 15 years.
