Lenka Franulic Award
The Lenka Franulic Award ( es, Premio Lenka Franulic, links=no) is a Chilean prize, whose purpose is to recognize career achievement in women's journalism. It has been given annually since 1963 by the . It is named for Lenka Franulic, the first Chilean woman journalist. The winner is determined by a jury composed of the president of the , the current holder of the National Prize for Journalism, the president of the Association of Women Journalists, the last Lenka Franulic Award winner, and the directors of the journalism schools of the University of Chile, the Catholic University of Chile, and one private university. Lenka Franulic
Lenka Franulic (22 July 1908 – 25 May 1961) was a Chilean journalist, and the first Chilean people, Chilean woman to be formally recognised as such. She was awarded the National Prize for Journalism (Chile), National Prize for Journalism, in the Feature category, in 1957. Biography Descendant of Croatian Chileans, Croatian immigrants both on the paternal and maternal sides, she was the daughter of Mateo Franulic Jerkovic and Zorka Zlatar Janovic. She was the eldest of two sisters, the youngest of whom, Dobrila, was an outstanding cellist. Her father died of kidney disease when she was 9 years old and her sister, 3. Graciela María Luisa Romero Piñero (14 May 1925 – 4 November 2011), better known by her nickname Totó Romero, was a Chilean social worker, journalist, and writer. She was a recipient of the Lenka Franulic Award. Biography The daughter of writer and the Argentine Zulema Piñero, Graciela Romero was educated at the Colegio Universitario Inglés of Santiago. She was the niece of distinguished journalist María Romero. At age 21, she married the Spanish citizen Andrés Rosselló, who was 16 years her senior. They separated because he wanted her to stop working, for which she took the car and the driver. "If you want to work, take a micro," he told her. She did not go in a microbus, but in a taxi. Marina Kunstmann Oettinger (11 May 1922 – 25 January 2016), better known as Marina de Navasal, was a Chilean journalist, television presenter, and radio announcer of German descent. Biography Marina Kunstmann Oettinger was the fourth daughter of Arturo Kunstmann Gerkens and Inés Oettinger. After marrying Spanish journalist , she began to sign with his surname. Carmen Puelma Accorsi (8 September 1933 – 27 December 2009) was an award-winning Chilean journalist. Biography After some decoration and nursing studies, in 1964 Puelma entered the journalism field at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, from which she graduated in 1969. That year she joined Radio Cooperativa, where she was head of news and press director until 1973. She was also an announcer, notably for the political program ''Las mujeres también improvisan'' – a reference to Canal 13's ', whose panel was composed only of men – which featured , Silvia Pinto, and Raquel Correa, among others.
