The Wiz (soundtrack)
''The Wiz'' is the original motion picture soundtrack album for the 1978 film adaptation of the Broadway musical ''The Wiz''. Although the film was produced for Universal Pictures by Motown Records' film division, the soundtrack album was issued on MCA Records as a two- LP collection (Universal was owned by MCA Inc. at the time). Chiefly produced by Quincy Jones, ''The Wiz'' soundtrack features non-sync cast performances by the stars of the film, including Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, Mabel King, Theresa Merritt, Thelma Carpenter, and Lena Horne. Like many musicals of the period, the performances in the soundtrack album are not those used directly in the film, but pre/re-recorded by the same artists at an earlier and/or later date. Several differences are noted, including a missing line by Michael Jackson and a scat section by Nipsey Russell being dropped from the soundtrack version of " A Brand New Day", among others. The song "Is This What Feeling G ...

Ease On Down The Road
"Ease on Down the Road" is a song from the 1975 Broadway musical ''The Wiz'', an R&B re-interpretation of L. Frank Baum's ''The Wonderful Wizard of Oz''. The Charlie Smalls–composed tune is the show's version of both "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" and "We're Off to See the Wizard" from the 1939 version of '' The Wizard of Oz''. In the song, performed three times during the show, Dorothy and her friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion dance their way down the Yellow Brick Road and give each other words of encouragement. Two versions of the song have been released as charting singles: one associated with the Broadway show by studio group Consumer Rapport in 1975, and a second recorded by Diana Ross and Michael Jackson for the feature-film adaptation of ''The Wiz'' (1978). History Early versions The earliest version of the song was recorded by the Hues Corporation in 1974, for their second studio album ''Rockin' Soul''. The song was performed by the original B ...

Oh Happy Day
"Oh Happy Day" is a 1967 gospel music arrangement of the 1755 hymn by clergyman Philip Doddridge. Recorded by the Edwin Hawkins Singers, it became an international hit in 1969, reaching No. 4 on the US Singles Chart, No. 1 in France, Germany, and the Netherlands and No. 2 on the Canadian Singles Chart, UK Singles Chart, and Irish Singles Chart. It has since become a gospel music standard. The recording begins with a muted piano, drum, and bass, backing lead singer Dorothy Combs Morrison on the left-hand stereo channel, then alternates twice with a full-throated chorus that includes a large ensemble, rising to a crescendo with handclaps, and ending with a return to the muted sound as at the beginning. The track is notable for its clear sound given the powerful vocals and the modest equipment used to capture them. It was made at Hawkins' church, the Ephesian Church of God in Christ in Berkeley, California. Origins The gospel style arrangement of the hymn "Oh, Happy Day" by Edwi ...

The Point!
''The Point!'' is the sixth studio album by American songwriter and musician Harry Nilsson, released in late 1970. It was accompanied by an animated film adaptation directed by Fred Wolf, which aired in early February 1971 on the ABC-TV network. Its lead single, "Me and My Arrow", peaked at number 34 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. ''The Point!'' is a fable that tells the story of a boy named Oblio, the only round-headed person in the Pointed Village, where by law everyone and everything must have a point. Nilsson explained his inspiration for ''The Point!'': "I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn't, then there's tilla point to it.'" Story The round-headed Oblio has had to wear a pointed hat since birth to conceal his "pointless" condition from his pointy-headed peers. However, Oblio is accepted in the town ...

The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)
"The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" is a song by folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, written by Paul Simon and included on their 1966 album ''Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme''. Its name is based on the 59th Street Bridge (formally known then as the Queensboro Bridge, later renamed the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge), which is a bridge of New York City that was completed in 1909. ''Cash Box'' called it a "sparkling, spirited lid." The studio version features Dave Brubeck Quartet members Joe Morello (drums) and Eugene Wright (double bass). Footage of Simon and Garfunkel performing the song at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival is featured in the film ''Monterey Pop''. On his farewell tour, Simon "penalized" himself for wrongly performing the lyrics to another song by singing this song, which he confesses to hating. The song's original length is 1:43, but its subsequent remasters for compilations '' Tales from New York: The Very Best of Simon & Garfunkel'' and ''The Essential Sim ...
