Len Kelly
Leonard Thomas Kelly (1913-1981) was an Australian premiership winning rugby league player who played in the 1930s and 1940s with St. George. He was later a senior administrator with the club in their successive eleven year winning run from 1956 to 1966. Background Kelly was born in Manildra, New South Wales on 17 June 1913. Playing career Kelly went on to become a legend at the St. George as a player, coach and administrator. Known as 'The Deacon', Kelly played his entire football career at St George. He came to club via the junior club, Sutherland Grave-Diggers. Kelly played twelve seasons for St. George between 1933 and 1944, the highlight being his vice-captaincy in the 1941 Grand Final winning team. In 1942 he became captain-coach. Kevin Humphreys (rugby League)
Kevin Emery Humphreys (14 April 1930 – 29 April 2010) was an Australian rugby league footballer and administrator. He was chairman of the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL), from about 1973 to 1983. In 1980, he was instrumental in the establishment of the State of Origin series between teams representing New South Wales and Queensland. Alan James Whiticker (born 1958) is an Australian non-fiction author and publisher, with over 50 published books on history, sport, biography, true crime and lifestyle. Whiticker writes primarily on matters pertaining to the history of the sport of rugby league in Australia, but he has also published works on subjects as diverse as classical film, pop culture, the Wanda Beach Murders and an adaptation of Homer's ''Iliad''. Neville Smith (rugby League)
Neville Bussey Smith (13 December 1915 – 5 August 1997) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1930s and 1940s. A Queensland Queensland Maroons, state representative, Smith became a 1941 NSWRFL season, premiership winning captain-coach with Sydney's St George Dragons, St. George club. In seasons 1939 NSWRFL season, 1939 & 1941 NSWRFL season, 1941 he was the NSWRFL premiership's top point scorer. Career After moving from Bathurst, New South Wales, Bathurst to Queensland in 1935, Smith played club football in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership for three seasons with Fortitude Valley Diehards, Fortitude Valley and represented for the Queensland Maroons, Maroons on two occasions in 1938. Bill Buckley (rugby League)
William George Buckley (8 August 1906 – 17 April 1973) was an Australian rugby league footballer and administrator. Playing career A front rower, Buckley played 75 lower grade matches for Newtown. He broke his leg in the 1928 NSWRFL season and his first grade career was over. Administrative career After playing, Buckley joined the New South Wales Rugby Football League General Committee as delegate of Newtown in 1940. When NSWRFL president Jersey Flegg died in 1960, Buckley replaced him and also became Chairman of the Australian Rugby League, a position he remained in from 1960 until his death in 1973.
