Len Jordan (rugby League)
Leonard Roy Jordan (24 January 1920 – 6 November 2014) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer. A , Jordan represented Auckland at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national team from 1946 to 1949. He played 29 matches for the Kiwis, including seven test matches. In the 1970s, his son Chris also played international league for New Zealand. Takapuna
Takapuna is a suburb located on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. The suburb is situated at the beginning of a south-east-facing peninsula forming the northern side of the Waitematā Harbour. While very small in terms of population, it was the seat of the North Shore City Council before amalgamation into Auckland Council in 2010 and contains substantial shopping and entertainment areas, acting as a CBD for the North Shore. History The Māori place name Takapuna originally referred to a freshwater spring that flowed from the base of North Head into a swamp behind Cheltenham Beach. In 1841 the wife of Eruera Maihi Patuone sold 9500 acres of Auckland's North Shore to the Crown. Referred to as Takapuna Parish, the North Shore was surveyed and subdivided in 1844. Ponsonby Ponies
The Ponsonby Ponies are a rugby league club based in Ponsonby, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1908 and was originally named Ponsonby United. The Ponies compete in the Auckland Rugby League competition and are the oldest rugby league club in NZ. History The 1912 Ponsonby squad included: Arthur Carlaw, Alf Chorley, Charlie Dunning, W Hooper, B Kean, Charles Webb, V Hunter, Tom Lynch, Scotch MacDonald, Harry Oakley, M Stanaway, Syd Riley, Billy Tyler and J Warner. 1940 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 1940 Auckland Rugby League season was its 32nd. Richmond Rovers won the Fox Memorial Shield for the 4th time after previously winning in 1934, 1935, and 1937. They finished the season with a 12 win, 1 draw, 3 loss record and were 3 points ahead of runner up North Shore Albions, with Mount Albert United in 3rd. Papakura struggled through much of the competition only managing 1 win. They, like many teams had lost playing members to the war effort and were unable to field a reserve grade side. Richmond Rovers also won the Roope Rooster knockout competition when they beat Ponsonby United 31-7 in the final. Richmond had made the final by defeating a surprise Papakura side who had beaten Otahuhu Rovers and Manukau on their way to the semi final. While Ponsonby had thrashed Mount Albert 41-13 in their semi final. 1942 Auckland Rugby League Season
The 1942 Auckland Rugby League season was its 34th. The season was extremely hampered by World War II with so many men away at war. The Auckland Rugby League reduced the number of teams in the senior grade from 9 to 6, and there were few reserve grade matches and no senior B competition what so ever. Many clubs were forced to focus on their junior teams and schoolboy sides. The Fox Memorial Shield was won by Manukau for the second time in its history following its first title in 1936. They finished with a 13 win, 2 loss record, comfortably ahead of the amalgamated City- Otahuhu side in second place with a 10 win, 5 loss record. The City- Otahuhu side had won all 5 of their first round matches to win the Rukutai Shield. The Roope Rooster was won by Richmond Rovers who beat the amalgamated Marist- North Shore side 13-6 in the final. This was the 7th time Richmond had won the Roope Rooster trophy. Auckland Rugby League Team
The Auckland rugby league team is the team which traditionally represents all of the clubs which play in the Auckland Rugby League competition. As well as a senior men's team there are also Auckland representative teams throughout the various age groups such as under 15s, under 17s, under 19s and under 21s. Under the new zone scheme introduced in 2010 the Auckland team represents the North Shore, East Auckland and West Auckland, while South Auckland is represented by the Counties Manukau rugby league team. The zone team is named the Akarana Falcons. New Zealand National Rugby League Team
The New Zealand national rugby league team (Māori: Tīma rīki motu Aotearoa) has represented New Zealand in rugby league since 1907. Administered by the New Zealand Rugby League, they are commonly known as the Kiwis, after the native bird of that name. The team's colours are black and white, with the dominant colour being black, and the players perform a haka before every match they play as a challenge to their opponents. The New Zealand Kiwis are currently second in the IRL World Rankings. Chris Jordan is a New Zealand rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand national rugby league team, New Zealand in the 1977 Rugby League World Cup, 1977 World Cup. His father, Len Jordan (rugby league), Len, was a New Zealand international between 1946 and 1949.
