The Lemp Mansion (3322 DeMenil Place, St. Louis, Missouri) is a historical house in Benton Park, St. Louis, Missouri. It is also the site of three suicides by Lemp family members after the death of the son Frederick Lemp, whose William J. Lemp Brewing Co. dominated the St. Louis beer market before Prohibition with its Falstaff beer brand. The mansion is said to be haunted by members of the Lemp family. Architectural history The house was built in 1890 according to the St. Louis Tax records. In 1911, the house underwent major renovations including conversion of some space into offices for the Lemp Brewery, which then ceased all production when it was sold to International Shoe Company at auction in 1922. The Lemps lived in the house until 1949 when Charles Lemp committed suicide in his bed. In 1950, the mansion became a boarding house; throughout the next decade, it lost much of its ornate charm. Duncan Lemp
On March 12, 2020, Duncan Socrates Lemp, was fatally shot at his home in Potomac, Maryland during a no-knock search by the Montgomery County Police Department's SWAT team. The police believed Lemp possessed firearms illegally, which were recovered at the scene. Police have said that Lemp was shot after confronting an officer during the execution of the raid. Lemp's family have said through their attorney that, based on an eyewitness, they believe Lemp was shot without warning while he was asleep. Lemp has since been described as a "martyr" for the boogaloo movement, some adherents to which believe Lemp was murdered by police because of his involvement with the movement and his anti-government beliefs. Rebecca Lemp (d. 1590) was a German woman who was accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake in Nördlingen. Witch hunt Lemp was one of 32 women convicted of witchcraft following a witch hunt in Nördlingen, Germany. Burgomaster George Pheringer led the witch hunt along with lawyers Sebastien Roettinger and Conrad Graf. Lemp had six children and was married to Peter Lemp, a well-regarded accountant. In April 1590, while he was away on business, she was arrested. Her children wrote to her while she was imprisoned. She wrote to her husband of her innocence, convinced that she would be freed. Lemp was tortured on five occasions and confessed. She wrote again to him, requesting he send her something with which she could end her life. Fritz-Julius Lemp (19 February 1913 – 9 May 1941) was a captain in the Kriegsmarine during World War II and commander of , and . He sank the British passenger liner in September 1939, in violation of the Hague conventions. Germany's responsibility for the sinking was suppressed by Admiral Karl Dönitz and the Nazi propaganda. Lemp died on 9 May 1941 when the U-boat he commanded was captured.
