Lelang Union
Lelang Union ( bn, লেলাং ইউনিয়ন) is a union parishad under Fatikchhari Upazila of Chittagong District in eastern Bangladesh. Geography Lelang Union has a total area of . It borders Kanchan Nagar Union to the north, Khiram Union to the east, Nanupur Union to the south, and Rangamatia Union to the west. Demographics According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, Lelang Union had 4,962 households and a population of 25,078. Islam was the majority religion (83.7% of the population). Hindus were the second-largest religious community (16.1% of the population). 11.1% of the population was under the age of 5. The literacy rate (age 7 and over) was 51.4%, compared to the national average of 51.8%. Administration There are six villages in the union: Damdama, Fenua, Gopalghata, Lelang, Shahnagar, and Roypur. Union Parishad
Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh. Each union council is made up of nine wards. Usually one village is designated as a ward. There are 4,562 unions in Bangladesh. A union council consists of a chairman and twelve members including three members exclusively reserved for women. Union councils are formed under the ''Local Government (Union Parishads) Act, 2009''. The boundary of each union council is demarcated by the Deputy Commissioner of the District. Fatikchhari Upazila
Fatikchari( bn, ফটিকছড়ি, Fôṭikchhôṛi) is an upazila of Chattogram District in Chattogram Division, Bangladesh. History The Fatikchhari Jami al-Uloom Fazil Madrasa and the Jamia Arabia Nasirul Islam Madrasa were founded in 1904 and 1912 respectively, transforming Fatikchhari into an important site of spiritual activities in the country. During the British colonial period, a thana was formed in Fatikchhari in 1918. In 1928, the Nanupur Sunnia Madrasa was established. During the Bangladesh Liberation War, a training camp was founded in Fatikchhari by Mustafizur Rahman Siddiqi, Ziaur Rahman and Zonal Commander Mirza Abu Mansur in March 1971. Bengali freedom fighters around Chittagong that used to go to India for training purposes would return through there and Fatikchhari alone was home to roughly 1500 Bengali freedom fighters. Chittagong District
Chittagong District, renamed the Chattogram District, is a district located in the south-eastern region of Bangladesh. It is a part of the Chattogram Division. The port city of Chattogram, which is the second largest city in Bangladesh, is located within this district. History Because of the natural harbour, Chattogram had been an important location for trade, drawing Arab traders as early as the 9th century CE. The region fell under the rule of kings from Arakan in the 16th and 17th centuries, but later, the Mughal Army under Shaista Khan conquered Chattogram. Asiatic Society Of Bangladesh
The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Ahmed Hasan Dani, a noted Muslim historian and archaeologist of Pakistan played an important role in founding this society. He was assisted by Muhammad Shahidullah, a Bengali linguist. 2011 Bangladesh Census
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Bangladesh have a population of 144,043,697 as per 2011 census report. The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is the centralized official bureau in Bangladesh for collecting statistics on demographics, the economy, and other facts about the country and disseminating the information. History Although independent statistical programs had existed in the country before, they were often incomplete or produced inaccurate results, which led the Government of Bangladesh establishing an official bureau in August 1974, by merging four of the previous larger statistical agencies, the Bureau of Statistics, the Bureau of Agriculture Statistics, the Agriculture Census Commission and the Population Census Commission. In July 1975, the Statistics and Informatics Division was created under the Planning Ministry (Bangladesh) and tasked to oversee the BBS. Nurul Alam Chowdhury
Nurul Alam Chowdhury (21 May 1945 – 27 January 2019) was a Bangladeshi politician, diplomat and freedom fighter who was elected twice as MP of Chittagong-4 in Jatiya Sangsad. He was also a former Bangladeshi Ambassador to Oman, and director of Rupali Bank. Early life and education Nurul Alam Chowdhury was born on 21 May 1945 in a village of Fatikchhari Upazila of Chittagong District, Gopalghata to Matiur Rahman Chowdhury and Waijunnesa Chowdhury. He received his secondary education at Chittagong Muslim High School and Chittagong College, where he was inducted into politics for the first time.
