Leipzig–Hof Railway
The Leipzig–Hof railway is a two-track main line in the German states of Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria, originally built and operated by the Saxon-Bavarian Railway Company. It runs from Leipzig through Altenburg, the Werdau wye junction, Reichenbach and Plauen to Hof. The Werdau–Hof section is part of the ''Saxon-Franconian trunk line'' (''Sachsen-Franken-Magistrale''), the line connecting Dresden and Nuremberg. Its first section opened in 1842 and it is one of the oldest railways in Germany. As a result of the division of Germany after the Second World War, the line lost considerable importance. Even after German reunification in 1989/90, the line has not been able to regain its former importance, especially as government policy gave preference to the extensive upgrade of the parallel Großheringen–Saalfeld railway. Leipzig Bayerischer Bahnhof
Leipzig Bayerischer Bahnhof (''Leipzig Bavarian station'') is Germany's oldest preserved railway station, located in Leipzig, Germany, in the southeastern part of the district Mitte. The station was first opened in 1842 for the Leipzig–Hof railway by the ''Saxon-Bavarian Railway Company'' (german: Sächsisch-Baierschen Eisenbahn-Compagnie), later taken over by the Royal Saxon State Railways (''Königlich Sächsische Staatseisenbahnen'') and operated as the ''Saxon-Bavarian State Railways'' (''Sächsisch-Bayerische Staatseisenbahn''). The station was closed in 2001 for the construction of the Leipzig City Tunnel. It re-opened on 15 December 2013 after the completion of the tunnel. Since then it has been integrated into S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland system. The new station is built directly underneath the site of the former station. Neukieritzsch Station
Neukieritzsch station is a station on the Leipzig–Hof and the Neukieritzsch–Chemnitz railways, which branches here, in Neukieritzsch in the German state of Saxony. The Neukieritzsch–Pegau railway, which has now been dismantled, also branched off here from 1909 until 1999. Location The station is located at line-kilometre 21.128 of the Leipzig–Hof railway. It is the starting point of another main line to Chemnitz and the station is located on this line at line-kilometre 0.323. Pegau
Pegau () is a town in the Leipzig district in Saxony, Germany, situated in a fertile plain, on the White Elster, 18 m. S.W. from Leipzig by the railway to Zeitz. It has two Evangelical churches, that of St. Lawrence being a fine Gothic structure, a 16th-century town-hall; a very old hospital and an agricultural school. In the 19th Century, its industries included the manufacture of felt, boots and metal wares. Rathaus The ''Rathaus'' (town hall) is located in the middle of the city and has a distinctive character. They usually have a home signal in each direction and on each running line. They are mainly found where the distance between two railway stations is greater than average.
