Leinster Junior B Club Hurling Championship
The Leinster Junior B Club Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by Killeedy GAA Club in Limerick since 2006 for the champion junior B hurling teams in the province of Leinster in Ireland. The Antrim and Galway champions are also represented in the competition. The series of games are played during the winter months with the Leinster final currently being played in January. The prize for the winning team is the Alfie Hickey Memorial Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. The Leinster Championship is an integral part of the wider All-Ireland Junior B Club Hurling Championship. The winners and runners-up of the Leinster final join the winners and runners-up of the Munster final in the semi-final stages of the All-Ireland Championship. 2022–23 All-Ireland Junior B Club Hurling Championship
The 2022–23 All-Ireland Junior B Club Hurling Championship was the 17th staging of the All-Ireland Junior B Club Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Killeedy GAA Club in 2005. The draw for the provincial championships took place on 28 October 2022. The championship ran from 19 November 2022 to 25 February 2023. The All-Ireland final was played on 25 February 2023 at Páirc Íde Naofa between Sarsfields from Galway and Bruff from Limerick, in what was their first-ever meeting in the final. Sarsfields won the match by 1-09 to 0-09 to claim their first ever All-Ireland title. The Kilkenny county hurling team represents Kilkenny in hurling and is governed by Kilkenny GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Alfie Hickey
Alphonsus Hickey (1933 – 12 April 2000) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with St. Lachtain's, and also lined out at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. Career Hickey first played hurling at club level with the St Lachtain's club in Freshford. He was part of the St Lachtain's team that won the Kilkenny JHC title in 1959. Hickey later captained St Lachtain's to their very first Kilkenny SHC title after a defeat of the Near South in 1961. He claimed a second Kilkenny SHC medal in 1963. Hickey's performances at cub level resulted in him assuming the captaincy of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He won a National Hurling League medal in this role after a defeat of Cork in the 1962 final. Hickey lost his place on the starting fifteen the following year but was an unused substitute when Kilkenny beat Waterford in the 1963 All-Ireland final. Extra Time
Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. A seed is a competitor or team in a sport or other tournament who is given a preliminary ranking for the purposes of the draw. Players/teams are "planted" into the bracket in a manner that is typically intended so that the best do not meet until later in the competition, usually based on regular season.
