Edward Leigh Pemberton
Sir Edward Leigh Pemberton (14 May 1823 – 31 January 1910) was an English Conservative Party politician. Leigh Pemberton was the son of Edward Leigh Pemberton by Charlotte Cox, daughter of Samuel Compton Cox. He was the nephew of Lord Kingsdown. He was elected to the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kent at a by-election in May 1868, after the sitting Conservative MP Sir Brook Bridges had been ennobled as Baron FitzWalter. Leigh Pemberton was re-elected at the general election in November 1868, and held the seat until the East Kent constituency was abolished at the 1885 general election. In 1898 he was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. He was elected as chairman of Borden School Trust during its conception in 1875. Even when he left the Board and missed several meetings, he was immediately elected Chairman when he resumed attendance and all continued as though nothing had happened. Sir James Henry Leigh-Pemberton (born 10 December 1956) is a British banker and the incumbent Receiver-General for the Duchy of Cornwall. He served as the executive chairman of UK Financial Investments until 2018 when the government owned company was closed. Leigh-Pemberton is the son of former Governor of the Bank of England and life peer Robin Leigh-Pemberton, Baron Kingsdown, and Rosemary Davina Forbes, , only daughter of Lt Col David Walter Arthur William Forbes , and stepdaughter of David Cecil, 6th Marquess of Exeter. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He started his career at S. G. Warburg & Co. before becoming a Managing Director at Credit Suisse, Investment Banking in London. Robin Leigh-Pemberton, Baron Kingsdown
Robert "Robin" Leigh-Pemberton, Baron Kingsdown, (5 January 1927 – 24 November 2013) was a British Peer and banker, who served as Governor of the Bank of England from 1983 to 1993. Education and career Leigh-Pemberton was educated at St Peter's Court, then at Eton College. He attended Trinity College, Oxford, graduating in 1950. In 1954, he was called to the Bar, and he practised law for several years before returning to Kent to manage the family estate of Torry Hill. He served as a Justice of the Peace and as Leader of Kent County Council. He eventually became chairman of the National Westminster Bank, then Governor of the Bank of England from 1983 until 1993. Wykeham Leigh Pemberton
Major-General Sir Wykeham Leigh-Pemberton (4 December 1833 – 2 March 1918) was a British Army officer and magistrate. He served as Aide-de-camp to Charles Monck, 4th Viscount Monck, in Canada; and, to Prince George, Duke of Cambridge. He was the brother of Sir Edward Leigh Pemberton, grandfather of Robin Leigh-Pemberton, Baron Kingsdown, Governor of the Bank of England. Biography Pemberton was born at Torry Hill, near Kingsdown in Kent. He was the fifth son of Edward Leigh-Pemberton (1795–1877), M.P., of Torry Hill, by his wife Charlotte, daughter of Samuel Compton Cox, Master of the Court of Chancery. Thomas Pemberton Leigh, 1st Baron Kingsdown
Thomas Pemberton Leigh, 1st Baron Kingsdown PC, KC (11 February 17937 October 1867), was a British barrister, judge and politician. Originally a successful equity lawyer, he then entered politics and sat as an MP from 1831 to 1832 and from 1835 to 1843. From 1841 to 1843 he was attorney-general for the Duchy of Cornwall. However, he is best remembered for his role on the judicial committee of the Privy Council, of which he was a member for nearly twenty years. Having turned down the post of Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain in 1858, he was the same year elevated to the peerage as Baron Kingsdown. He died unmarried in October 1867, aged 74.
