Legion (video Game)
''Legion'' is a turn-based computer wargame with a historical setting, designed by Slitherine and released in 2002. In ''Legion'', the player attempts to build a powerful army by controlling villages and defeating enemies with the ultimate goal of dominating a region. An updated version, ''Legion Gold'', was released in 2003. A port for OS X was released in 2003, developed by Freeverse. A sequel, ''Legion II'', was announced on November 16, 2004 for a 2005 release. Gameplay ''Legion'' is a turn-based single-player wargame. The strategy of battle involves fighting on favorable terrain with enemies weak against the player's units. Other concerns are capturing cities that produce food, stone and wood. Upgrading the cities' buildings leads to the production of stronger units. Each unit in ''Legion'' has its own strengths and weaknesses, different types of attacks ( melee and ranged) and weapon. Slitherine Software UK Limited is a British video game developer and publisher founded on 25 June 2000. ''Legion Arena'' is a computer wargame developed by Slitherine Strategies. It allows the player to play as several tribes during the rise of the Roman Empire. The player can play as the Latin tribes, the Celts and the Romans. It is published by Black Bean Games in Europe and Strategy First in North America for Windows. Release The game was announced on June 30, 2004. A OS X port by Freeverse was announced on January 12, 2006. In 2006, an expansion to ''Legion Arena'' was released under the title of ''Legion Arena: Cult of Mithras''. It incorporated mythical elements into the base game. Reception ''Legion Arena'' received mixed reviews from critics upon release. On Metacritic, the game holds a score of 65/100 based on 20 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews". GameRankings was a video gaming review aggregator that was founded in 1999 and owned by CBS Interactive. It indexed over 315,000 articles relating to more than 14,500 video games. GameRankings was discontinued in December 2019, with its staff being merged with the similar aggregator Metacritic. Rankings GameRankings collected and linked to (but did not host) reviews from other websites and magazines and averages specific ones. While hundreds of reviews may get listed, only the ones that GameRankings deemed notable were used for the average. Scores were culled from numerous American and European sources. The site used a percentage grade for all reviews in order to be able to calculate an average. Germania ( ; ), also called Magna Germania (English: ''Great Germania''), Germania Libera (English: ''Free Germania''), or Germanic Barbaricum to distinguish it from the Roman province of the same name, was a large historical region in north-central Europe during the Roman era, which was associated by Roman authors with the Germanic peoples. Gallic Wars
The Gallic Wars were waged between 58 and 50 BC by the Roman general Julius Caesar against the peoples of Gaul (present-day France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland). Gallic, Germanic, and British tribes fought to defend their homelands against an aggressive Roman campaign. The Wars culminated in the decisive Battle of Alesia in 52 BC, in which a complete Roman victory resulted in the expansion of the Roman Republic over the whole of Gaul. The Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula was a process by which the Roman Republic seized territories in the Iberian Peninsula that were previously under the control of native Celtic, Iberian, Celtiberian and Aquitanian tribes and the Carthaginian Empire. The Roman conquest of Britain refers to the conquest of the island of Britain by occupying Roman forces. It began in earnest in AD 43 under Emperor Claudius, and was largely completed in the southern half of Britain by 87 when the Stanegate was established.
