''Legendborn'' is a 2020 debut young adult fantasy novel by Tracy Deonn. Tracy Deonn is an American author. Her debut novel '' Legendborn'' (2020) was a ''New York Times'' bestseller and received a Coretta Scott King–John Steptoe Award for New Talent and the 2021 Ignyte Award for Best Young Adult Novel. The sequel novel ''Bloodmarked'' was published in 2022 and also became a ''New York Times'' bestseller. Early life and education Deonn was raised in central North Carolina. Coretta Scott King Award
The Coretta Scott King Award is an annual award presented by the Ethnic & Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table, part of the American Library Association (ALA). Named for Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr., this award recognizes outstanding books for young adults and children by African Americans that reflect the African-American experience. Awards are given both to authors and to illustrators. The first author award was given in 1970. In 1974, the award was expanded to honor illustrators as well as authors. The Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book is an award given annually to a book published for young adult readers in the field of science fiction or fantasy. The name of the award was chosen because a lodestar is "a star that guides or leads, especially in navigation, where it is the sole reliable source of light—the star that leads those in uncharted waters to safety." The nomination and selection process is administered by the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), and the award is presented at the Hugo Award ceremony at the annual World Science Fiction Convention, or Worldcon, although it is not itself a Hugo Award.
