''Legend of the Mountain'' ( zh, t=山中傳奇, s=山中传奇, first=t, w=Shan-chung ch'uan-ch'i) is a 1979 Taiwanese-Hong Kong film directed by King Hu. Plot Ho, a young scholar, is responsible for translating Buddhist sutras which are said to have power over the creatures of the afterlife. He goes to a monastery to fulfill the task. He meets strange people: Mr. Tsui and his friend Chang, Melody a Chinese drum player, an old washerwoman and a flutist. King Hu
Hu Jinquan (29 April 1932 – 14 January 1997), better known as King Hu, was a Chinese film director and actor based in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He is best known for directing various ''wuxia'' films in the 1960s and 1970s, which brought Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema to new technical and artistic heights. His films ''Come Drink with Me'' (1966), ''Dragon Inn'' (1967), and ''A Touch of Zen'' (1970–1971) inaugurated a new generation of ''wuxia'' films in the late 1960s. Apart from being a film director, Hu was also a screenwriter and set designer. Early life Hu was born in Beijing to a well-established family originating from Handan, Hebei. Sun Yueh
Sun Yueh (; 26 October 1930 – 1 May 2018) was a Taiwanese actor. Born in Yuyao, Zhejiang on 26 October 1930, he moved to Taiwan in 1949. Sun appeared in his first film in 1962, and retired in 1989. Over the course of his career, he received the Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1968, and the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor in 1983. Sun stopped smoking after his baptism as a Christian in 1981, and in later life became a humanitarian known for his work with the John Tung Foundation. He cautioned youth against the use of tobacco, and drew attention to ailments related to smoking, namely chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In 2010, Sun received a Golden Horse Award for special contributions. Sun underwent treatment for gallstones and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at National Taiwan University Hospital in March 2018, and died of sepsis and multiple organ failure on 1 May 2018 at the age of 87. Hsu Feng
Hsu Feng (born 17 December 1950) is a Taiwanese-born actress and film producer. In the 1970s she was one of the leading actresses of the cinemas of Hong Kong and Taiwan, particularly known for her roles in wuxia films and her work with director King Hu. In 1981 she retired from her career as an actress, but a few years later she returned to the film industry as a producer and went on to produce several award-winning movies. Among them was Chen Kaige's '' Farewell My Concubine'', which won the Palme d'Or (1993) and the BAFTA Award for Best Film not in the English Language (1994) and was nominated for an Academy Award and a César for best foreign film as well.
