Legend Of A Gunfighter
''Legend of a Gunfighter'' (german: Heiss weht der Wind, lit=''The Wind Blows Hot''; also known as german: Mein Freund Shorty, lit=''My Friend Shorty'', label=none) is a 1964 Western film from West Germany. It stars Thomas Fritsch and was directed by Rolf Olsen. It was part of a boom in German westerns following the success of the Karl May series of adaptations. It was co written by Don Sharp and co-starred Ron Randell. Both men were Australians. Location shooting took place in Croatia and Slovenia. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Willi Herrmann, Leo Metzenbauer and Otto Pischinger. Rolf Olsen (actor)
Rolf Olsen (26 December 1919 – 3 April 1998) was an Austrian actor, screenwriter and film director. He appeared in 60 films between 1949 and 1990. He also wrote for 51 films and directed a further 33 between 1947 and 1990. He was born in Vienna, Austria and died in Munich, Germany. Karl May Film Adaptations
Karl May film adaptations are films based on stories and characters by German author Karl May (1842–1912). The characters Old Shatterhand, Winnetou, and Kara Ben Nemsi are very famous in Central Europe. In most of the film versions the novels were reworked to a great extent, some movies using only the names of characters invented by Karl May. For example, in the book ''Der Schatz im Silbersee'' (''The Treasure of Silver Lake'') the main character was called "Old Firehand" – in the movie he was renamed "Old Shatterhand" (played by American actor Lex Barker) after the more famous character. The movies ''Old Shatterhand'' (''Apaches' Last Battle'') and ''Winnetou and Old Firehand'' (''Thunder at the Border'') are not based on any of May's works, but were completely invented by the screenwriters. Art director is the title for a variety of similar job functions in theater, advertising, marketing, publishing, fashion, film industry, film and television, the Internet, and video games.
