''Legalize Crime'' is the name of the debut EP by Outlaw Order (OO%), a side project of sludge metal band Eyehategod. It was released as a limited edition 7" (1,500 copies were printed) in 2003 and re-released on CD with a bonus live track on October 25, 2006. The reissue is available through Eyehategod's webstore. Outlaw Order
Eyehategod (also abbreviated and referred to as EHG) is an American sludge metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana who formed in 1988. They have become one of the better known bands to emerge from the NOLA metal scene. Their core lineup has remained consistent since the band's inception, with the exception of the bassist (the role of which has been filled by several musicians over the years), until the death of drummer Joey LaCaze in 2013. As of 2021, the band has released seven studio albums. Eyehategod have noted the Melvins, Carnivore, The Obsessed, Discharge, Black Flag, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Confessor, and Saint Vitus as key influences to their sound. Sludge metal (also known as sludge or sludge doom) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated through combining elements of doom metal and hardcore punk. It is typically harsh and abrasive, often featuring shouted vocals, heavily distorted instruments and sharply contrasting tempos. The Melvins from the US state of Washington produced the first sludge metal albums in the mid-late 1980s. Characteristics The key characteristics of both sludge and doom metal are a slow tempo combined with down-tuned, heavily- distorted guitars to deliver the heaviest feel that is possible. The drummer must be able to lead the band through the slow parts of a piece with an accurate time feel, which is much harder to achieve when compared with playing faster pieces. Southern Lord Records
Southern Lord is an American heavy metal record label that was founded in 1998 by Greg Anderson. It specialized in experimental metal: particularly doom metal, stoner rock, and drone metal. The label later expanded its line-up to include artists from black metal, hardcore punk and crust punk bands. History Before co-founding their own record label Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley were friends and bandmates in Thorr's Hammer and Burning Witch. Dragging Down The Enforcer
''Dragging Down the Enforcer'' is the name of the debut album by Outlaw Order, a side-project of the pioneering American sludge metal outfit Eyehategod. It was released in November 2008 in both jewel case and metal box formats. It was originally due to be released on October 13 and 14, but was delayed due to manufacturing issues. There were apparently 13 songs recorded for the album, but the final track listing lists 11, meaning two B-sides exist. Between the release of the ''Legalize Crime'' EP and ''Dragging Down the Enforcer'', bassist Justin Grisoli left the band, hence bass parts on the album were recorded by Brian Patton. The track "Double Barrel Solves Everything" previously appeared on ''Legalize Crime'' as "D.B.S.E.". Mike IX Williams (born Michael D. Williams) is an American vocalist and songwriter, best known as the lead singer of New Orleans-based sludge metal band Eyehategod. He is the former associate editor of heavy metal magazine ''Metal Maniacs'' and has also worked on other projects. Early life Williams was born in High Point, North Carolina.
