Legal Profession Admission Board
The Legal Profession Admission Board is the statutory authority responsible for the admission of lawyers in New South Wales. It was formerly two separate boards; the Barristers Admission Board and the Solicitors Admission Board. Th''Legal Profession Act 1993''introduced common admission for both branches of the profession resulting in the merger of the two boards. The board has responsibility for accrediting academic and practical legal training courses leading to admission as a lawyer. The board is also tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that candidates for admission are of good character. In addition to accrediting University courses, the board also conducts examinations leading to a Diploma in Law. The board's Diploma is the equivalent of an accredited law degree and satisfies the academic requirements for admission to the profession. Reginald Marr
Reginald Joseph Marr, (12 March 1917 – 16 November 1999) was an Australian lawyer and military officer. He was a Queen's Counsel who served as the Solicitor General of New South Wales (1974–78), and held the rank of colonel in the Australian Army Legal Corps. Early life Marr was born in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney on 12 March 1917, into one of the pioneering engineering families of New South Wales (Gordon Marr & Sons & E.A.Marr Cranes), as the second youngest child into a family of two girls and six boys. Bronwyn Bishop
Bronwyn Kathleen Bishop (née Setright; born 19 October 1942) is an Australian former politician. She was a member of federal parliament for almost 30 years, the longest period of service by a woman. A member of the Liberal Party, she was a minister in the Howard Government from 1996 to 2001 and Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2015. Bishop was born in Sydney and worked as a lawyer before entering politics. She served as state president of the New South Wales Liberals from 1985 to 1987, and then won election to the Senate at the 1987 federal election. Lionel Murphy
Lionel Keith Murphy QC (30 August 1922 – 21 October 1986) was an Australian politician, barrister, and judge. He was a Senator for New South Wales from 1962 to 1975, serving as Attorney-General in the Whitlam Government, and then sat on the High Court from 1975 until his death. Murphy was born in Sydney, and attended Sydney Boys High School before going on to the University of Sydney. He initially graduated with a degree in chemistry, but then went on to Sydney Law School and eventually became a barrister. He specialised in labour and industrial law, and took silk in 1960. Murphy was elected to the Senate at the 1961 federal election, as a member of the Labor Party. He became Leader of the Opposition in the Senate in 1967. Harold Farncomb
Rear Admiral Harold Bruce Farncomb (28 February 1899 – 12 February 1971) was a senior officer in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) who served in the First and Second World Wars, and as a lawyer. He was the first Australian-born RAN officer to reach a flag rank in the RAN. The ''Collins'' class submarine is named in his honour. David Opas
David Louis Opas (30 June 1936 – 23 June 1980) was a judge of the Family Court of Australia. He was shot and killed during a period when a series of related gun and bomb attacks, killing three more people, were carried out against judges and other people connected to the Family Court. Private life Opas was born on 30 June 1936 at Waverley, Sydney. His father Maurice was a commercial traveller, and his mother was Bessie (née Hart). Ian McClelland Barker QC (21 October 1935 – 19 December 2021) was an Australian barrister and Queen's Counsel.
