Lee H. Katzin
Lee H. Katzin (12 April 1935 - 30 October 2002) was an American film director. Early life and education He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and became a TV director in the late 1960s, including episodes for ''Bonanza, Mission: Impossible ''and '' Police Story.'' He also directed the 1971 feature film ''Le Mans.'' Career Starting in 1969, he did an array of theatrical films starting with ''Heaven with a Gun'' and other films like '' The Break'' and the cult classic ''What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice?'' In 1972, he directed the film ''The Salzburg Connection'', which starred Barry Newman and Anna Karina. In 1975, he directed the launch episode " Breakaway", and other early episodes, of the Gerry Anderson live-action series '' Space: 1999.'' He also directed the pilots for the television series '' Man from Atlantis'' and '' Spenser: For Hire''. ''Savages'' is a 1974 American television thriller film directed by Lee H. Katzin and based on the 1972 novel '' Deathwatch'' by Robb White. It stars Andy Griffith and Sam Bottoms. Synopsis A successful Los Angeles lawyer and hunter, Horton Madec (Andy Griffith), receives a rare permit to hunt bighorn sheep in the nearby Mojave Desert. He hires a timid college student currently working as a filling station attendant named Ben (Sam Bottoms), who will drive him into the desert with his Jeep CJ and help show Madec where the bighorn are. Ben is studying to be a geologist, so therefore he knows the desert very well. ''The Stranger'' is a 1973 made-for-television film pilot for a new television series, but it was never picked up by a network. It was directed by Lee H. Katzin. Film Ventures International, an independent film production and distribution company, re-issued ''The Stranger'' to syndication under the title ''Stranded in Space''. As with other films re-released under the FVI banner, ''The Strangers new opening credits featured footage from an entirely unrelated film, in this case the 1983 low-budget science fiction film ''Prisoners of the Lost Universe''. ''Le Mans'' is a 1971 film depicting a fictional 24 Hours of Le Mans auto race starring Steve McQueen and directed by Lee H. Katzin. The film began as a John Sturges project, before he was replaced during filming. It features actual footage captured during the 1970 race held the previous June. Plot Top flight Le Mans racing driver Michael Delaney spots former rival Piero Belgetti's widow Lisa buying flowers in the days before the race; he then drives to the scene of the accident which killed her husband the previous year. He has a flashback of Belgetti losing control of his Ferrari, forcing him to crash as well. Like many others, Lisa appears to feel Delaney was responsible, at least in part, for the accident. ''The Phynx'' is a 1970 American comedy film directed by Lee H. Katzin about a rock and roll band named The Phynx and their mission in foreign affairs. The group is sent to Albania to locate celebrity hostages taken prisoner by Communists.
