Juana Lecaros
Juanita Lecaros Izquierdo (1920 – 1993) Chilean visual artist and poet. She is known for her paintings, and engravings. Lecaros used the pseudonym J. M. Sorcale for writing her poetry. Biography She studied art at the University of Chile between 1949 and 1953, where she was a student of Gustavo Carrasco in drawing, Laureano Ladrón de Guevara in mural painting and Eduardo Martínez Bonati in engraving. She also took printmaking classes at Taller 99 with Bonati. While attending university, she was a member of the "Grupo de Estudiantes Plásticos". Although Lecaros never traveled abroad, her works were exhibited in the United States, Brazil, and Italy. In parallel, she wrote poetry which she signed under the pseudonym J. M. Sorcale. Her work can be found in the museum collections at the Museum of Modern Art. Magdalena Matte Lecaros
Magdalena Matte Lecaros (born August 13, 1950) is a Chilean businesswoman and politician. She is member of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) and was part of Chile's Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under Chile's former President Sebastián Piñera for the term of 2010–2014. She is a member of the Matte family. Biography Matte was born in Santiago. Her paternal grandmother, Rosa Ester Alessandri Rodríguez, was the daughter of Arturo Alessandri, Chile's president during 1920–1925 and 1932–1938. Rosa was also the sister of Jorge Alessandri, President of Chile between 1958 and 1964. Her paternal grandfather, Arturo Matte Larraín, was a lawyer and congressman, Minister of the State, presidential candidate (1952), and a founder of forestal and paper company CMPC.' was a Chilean jazz musician and composer of music for film, theater, and popular music. He played wind, string, and keyboard instruments, including the violin, double bass, trumpet, cornet, flute, piano and accordion. He was one of the patriarchs of the Lecaros family of musicians.


Biography

At the age of three, he began studying violin and at the age of five, he entered the National Conservatory of Music of the University of Chile. In 1958, he discovered jazz when he saw the Goodway Jazz Band play at a university dance. Its director, the clarinetist Juan Sillano, invited Lecaros to play the tuba, initiating him into jazz.
