Leap Into Life
''Leap Into Life'' (german: Der Sprung ins Leben) is a 1924 German silent drama film directed by Johannes Guter and starring Xenia Desni, Walter Rilla and Paul Heidemann. It features one the earliest film appearances of the future star Marlene Dietrich.Chandler p. 45 It was partly shot at the Johannisthal Studios in Berlin as well as on location around Rugen. The film's sets were designed by Rudi Feld. Synopsis A young intellectual falls in love with a circus performer and decides to cultivate her into a lady and marry her. Eventually however she decides to return to her tightrope walker lover. Johannes Guter
Johannes Guter (born Jānis Gūters; 25 April 1882 – 18 March 1962) was a Latvians, Latvian-born German filmmaker, screenwriter, and occasional film producer. Although most of his work is now lost, he is considered a pioneer of German silent cinema and expressionism. Film career Born in Riga, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire, Guter was educated at the Technical University in his home city and made a name for himself as a budding theatrical actor. After the Russian Revolution of 1905, he fled to Berlin in Germany, only to be arrested for the murder of a police officer when he returned to his homeland in 1907. In 1908, after bail was posted, he fled again before his trial, this time settling in Vienna. By 1910 he had directed his first play in Vienna, before moving to Frankfurt where he worked at the New Theatre as a director. Rudi Feld
Rudi Feld (1896–1994) was a German art director and set designer who worked for many years in the United States. Germany Feld was born Rudi Feilchenfeld in Berlin, the elder brother of the actor Fritz Feld. He served in the German army during World War I and then began his early career designing posters for revue and cabaret shows, before graduating to creating film sets. Feld worked in the German film industry during the boom years of the late silent era. He was employed by the German Major studio UFA as head of advertising.Ward p.193 He designed the exterior displays of the flagship UFA cinema Ufa-Palast am Zoo for each new premiere. Erling Hanson
Erling Georg Stefan Hanson (May 1, 1888 – August 16, 1978) was a Norwegian stage and film actor. Life Erling Hanson was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway, the son of the physician Alfred Hanson (1844–1819) and Emmy Amalie Hanson (née Jørgensen, 1864–1944). He died in Oslo in 1978. Career Hanson made his stage debut at the National Theater in Bergen in 1908 in Alf Harbitz's play ''Rakels hjem''. He then performed in Ludovica Levy's touring theater. As a film actor, he appeared in one Danish silent film in 1920, seven silent films in Germany between 1920 and 1924, and five Norwegian films between 1941 and 1944. Max Walter Gülstorff (23 March 1882 – 6 February 1947) was a German actor and stage director. Biography Gülstorff was born in Tilsit, East Prussia. He first appeared in 1900 at the Rudolstadt municipal Theater and moved to Cottbus in 1908. In 1911 Gülstorff went to the ''Schillertheater'' Berlin and became a member of the ensemble of Max Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in 1915. He also acted at the Großes Schauspielhaus and the Volksbühne Berlin. In 1923 Gülstorff moved to Vienna, where he worked as a stage director at the Theater in der Josefstadt The Theater in der Josefstadt is a theater in Vienna in the eighth district of Josefstadt. Hans Heinrich von Twardowski (5 May 1898 – 19 November 1958) was a German film actor. Career in Germany Twardowski was born in Stettin, Germany (now Szczecin in Poland). He made his first film appearance in the 1920 Robert Wiene-directed horror movie '' Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari'' (''The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'') which starred Conrad Veidt, Werner Krauss and Lil Dagover. Käthe Haack (born Käte Lisbeth Minna Sophie Isolde Haack; 11 August 1897 – 5 May 1986) was a German stage and film actress. She appeared in more than 200 films and 30 television productions between 1915 and 1985. Life and career Käte Lisbeth Minna Sophie Isolde Haack was born in Berlin on 11 August 1897.
