Leif Haraldseth
Leif Haraldseth (30 November 1929 – 8 April 2019) was a Norwegian trade unionist and politician for the Labour Party. Early life He was born in Drammen as a son of worker Hans Haraldseth (1905–1977) and housewife Ingrid (1907–1999). He finished secondary education in 1947, was a delivery boy in the Norwegian State Railways for two years, then attended the Railway School and worked as a telegrapher in the State Railways from 1951 til 1965. Trade unionism and politics In 1965 he was hired as district secretary of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions in Buskerud. In 1969 he was promoted to secretary and in 1977 to vice chairman of the organization. On both occasions he replaced Odd Højdahl. From 1986 to 1987 he was the Minister of Local Government in Brundtland's Second Cabinet. He then headed the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions from 1987 to 1989. Jens Tangen
Jens Eugen Tangen (20 July 1897 – 22 September 1980) was a Norwegian trade unionist. Career Tangen chaired the trade union Norwegian Union of Building Workers from 1935, having been deputy chairman from 1933 to 1934. In 1940, he was a central member of Fagopposisjonen av 1940 (Trade Opposition of 1940), for which he chaired the executive committee. The purpose of the Trade Opposition was to use the recent German occupation of Norway for the better, in the then-absence of a real "bourgeois" political authority. The Trade Opposition leader Håkon Meyer became more content with cooperating with the Nazis, including the Norwegian Fascist party, and on 28 September 1940 Tangen was ordered by the Nazis to assume the chairmanship of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions. He chose Ludvik Buland as deputy chairman. Tangen cooperated to a certain degree with the Nazis, and visited Germany in January 1941. Elias Volan
Elias Karelius Johansen Volan (10 March 1887 – 26 December 1974) was a Norwegian trade unionist. He was born in Inderøy as a son of crofter Johan Berent Johannessen Volvollan and Lise Eliasdatter Kjærbo. He attended Sund Folk High School from 1903 to 1904, but spent the rest of his youth as a worker. In 1908 he became chairman of his local trade union. He became a Norwegian Union of General Workers unionist in Trondheim, and became a national board member in 1913. He was also a member of the Dutch Radicals (refer to Fagopposisjonen av 1911), and through his fellow adherents (spearheaded by Martin Tranmæl) he was elected chairman of the Norwegian Union of General Workers in 1918 and deputy chairman of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions in 1920. In 1923 he went on to become chairman of the newly created Norwegian Union of Building Workers. Hans-Christian Gabrielsen (27 July 1967 – 9 March 2021) was a Norwegian industrial worker, politician, and trade unionist. He was elected leader of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions from May 2017. Career Gabrielsen was born in Slemmestad, in Røyken in the present-day municipality of Asker. Gerd Kristiansen
Gerd Kristiansen (born 1 August 1955 in Harstad) is a Norwegian licensed practical nurse. She served as the leader of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions from 2013 to 2017. Career Gerd Kristiansen was born in the village of Fauskevåg in Harstad municipality and grew up on a farm. At the age of 17 she became a single mother. She took some courses in economics but also worked as a fisher in the North Sea and the Barents Sea. In the early 1980s she worked on a fishing boat that shipwrecked outside Kiberg, but all on board survived. After studying in Tromsø, she became a licensed practical nurse. Roar Flåthen (born 15 January 1950) is a Norwegian trade unionist and politician for the Norwegian Labour Party. He was leader of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions 2007 - 2013. He became the leader after Gerd-Liv Valla resigned on 9 March 2007 in the aftermath of the Valla scandal. He has also represented the trade union in the National Wages Board, before becoming the trade union's leader. Gerd-Liv Valla (born 25 January 1948 in Korgen, Nordland) is a Norwegian former trade union leader, who served as leader of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO). She took over in 2001 (from former leader, Yngve Hågensen) and resigned in 2007 as a result of the so-called Valla affair. In 1997 she briefly served as Norwegian Minister of Justice. Early life Valla grew up on a farm near Bjerka in Hemnes municipality, Nordland. Their father was active in the Norwegian Agrarian Association, and her brother Nils Valla would become a national leader of this organization. Gerd-Liv Valla moved to Hemnesberget to complete her primary education, and to Mo i Rana for upper secondary school. Tor Halvorsen (24 November 1930 – 4 November 1987) was a Norwegian trade unionist and politician for the Labour Party. Biography He was born in Skien. He started his working career in a shoe factory in 1946. In 1952 he was hired as a plumber in Porsgrunn. He then head the trade union of Norsk Hydro at Herøya from 1961 to 1968. He was a district secretary in Arbeidernes Opplysningsforbund from 1968 to 1969, and then a secretary of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions, a position he held from 1969 to 1973 and 1976 to 1977. He served as a deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway from Telemark during the term 1969–1973. He was a member of Skien city council from 1963 to 1971, and chaired the local Labour Party chapter from 1969 to 1971. In 1973 he was named Minister of the Environment in Bratteli's Second Cabinet.
