Le Couperet
''The Axe'' (US title: ''The Ax'') (french: Le couperet) is a 2005 black comedy-drama thriller film directed by Costa-Gavras and starring José Garcia, Karin Viard, and Olivier Gourmet. The film is an adaptation of the 1997 novel ''The Ax'' by Donald E. Westlake, and follows the attempts by a laid-off employee to get back on his feet. He eventually becomes so desperate that he is prepared to kill his job competitors. The film is a co-production between France, Belgium and Spain. Synopsis The 39-year-old chemist Bruno Davert has been working at a paper mill for 15 years, improving products and saving money for the shareholders. One day, the company announces that it is forced to " downsize", so 600 staff are laid off and many of their jobs are instead outsourced to a company in Romania. The result is a 16% increase in dividends to the company shareholders. Jean-Claude Grumberg
Jean-Claude Grumberg (born 1939) is a French playwright and author of children's books. Early life Before becoming a playwright, Jean-Claude Grumberg held several jobs, including working as a tailor. This work provided the setting for his best-known play, ''L'Atelier''. He discovered drama as an actor in a theatrical company. His career as a writer began in 1968 with ''Demain, une fenêtre sur rue'', and short theatrical pieces such ''Rixe,'' which was staged at the Comédie-Française. In several of his works, he has written about what has haunted him since childhood: the death of his father in the Nazi death camps: ''Maman revient pauvre orphelin'', ''Dreyfus'' (1974), ''L'Atelier'' (1979) and ''Zone libre'' (1990). Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Dieudonné Kabongo (1950 – October 11, 2011) was a Congolese-born Belgian comedian, humorist, musician, and actor. Kabongo co-starred in the 2000 film, '' Lumumba'', portraying Godefroid Munongo. He was the first comedian of African descent to achieve widespread popularity in Belgium. Biography Kabongo was born in 1950 in Katanga, Belgian Congo, which is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
