''Le chevalier d’Harmental'' is an opéra comique in five acts of 1896, with music by André Messager and a French language, French libretto by Paul Ferrier, after Alexandre Dumas, père, Dumas père and Auguste Maquet. The play of the The Conspirators (novel), 1843 novel – in five acts, a prologue and ten tableaux – was first performed on 16 July 1849 at the Théâtre-Historique in Paris. The opera was first performed at the Opéra Comique (Théâtre de la Ville, Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt) in Paris on 5 May 1896, but ran for only six performances.Stoullig E. Louis-Auguste de Bourbon, duc du Maine (31 March 1670 – 14 May 1736) was an illegitimate son of Louis XIV and his official mistress, Madame de Montespan. The king's favourite son, he was the founder of the semi-royal House of Bourbon-Maine named after his title and his surname. Giulio Alberoni (30 May 1664 OS – 26 June NS 1752) was an Italian cardinal and statesman in the service of Philip V of Spain. The Palais-Royal () is a former royal palace located in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, 1st arrondissement of Paris, France. The screened entrance court faces the Place du Palais-Royal, opposite the Louvre Palace, Louvre. Sceaux () is a commune in the Hauts-de-Seine department in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the centre of Paris. In 2019, Sceaux had a population of 20,004. A wealthy city Sceaux is famous for the Château de Sceaux, set in its large park (''Parc départemental de Sceaux''), designed by André Le Nôtre, measuring . Jacques Isnardon
Jacques Isnardon (15 February 1860 – 14 November 1930) was a French bass-baritone, writer and voice teacher. After winning a competition at the Paris Conservatory, he made his debut as Baxter in Émile Paladilhe's ''Diane'' at the Opéra-Comique in 1885, before moving to Brussels and the ''Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie'', whose history he chronicled. He sang in ''Die Meistersinger'' at Covent Garden, ''Manon'' at La Scala and ''Le médecin malgré lui'' at Monte Carlo before returning to the Opéra-Comique in 1894. His ''Le Chant Théâtral'' is as much a memoir of his times as a philosophy of vocal pedagogy: "Herein is but one method: the new method for each pupil".
