This is a list of small shopping centres in the island of Montreal. Baie d'Urfé Plaza Baie d'Urfé Plaza Baie d'Urfé is a small strip mall located in Baie d'Urfé, Quebec, Canada on 90 Morgan Street across from Quebec Autoroute 20. The shopping centre is currently owned by First Capital Realty and is anchored by Provigo. It opened in 1967 but was destroyed by a fire 1980. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1981. Beaconsfield Beaconsfield Centre commercial Beaconsfield is a small indoor shopping mall (one of the smallest in the West Island) located in Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada on 50 St. Charles Blvd. across from Quebec Autoroute 20. A shopping center (American English) or shopping centre (Commonwealth English), also called a shopping complex, shopping arcade, shopping plaza or galleria, is a group of shops built together, sometimes under one roof. The first known collections of retailers under one roof are public markets, dating back to ancient times, and Middle Eastern covered markets, bazaars and souqs. IGA, Inc., is an American chain of grocery stores that operates in more than 41 countries. Unlike the chain store business model, IGA operates as a franchise through stores that are owned separately from the brand. Many of these stores operate in small-town markets and belong to families that manage them. It was founded in the United States as the Independent Grocers Alliance in 1926. Consumers Distributing (known in Quebec as Distribution aux Consommateurs, and informally as Consumers) was a catalogue store in Canada and the United States that operated from 1957 to 1996. At its peak, the company operated 243 outlets in Canada and 217 in the United States, including stores in every province in Canada and in the states of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, California and Nevada. Consumers Distributing aimed to reduce costs for customers by stocking merchandise in a warehouse-type stocking system instead of displaying them in a costly showroom. J&R Kosher
J&R Kosher Meat and Delicatessen is a Montreal kosher butcher and delicatessen established in 1952 by Robert Nemes, a Holocaust survivor and immigrant from Romania. It is currently at 5800 Cavendish Blvd in the heart of the city's Jewish community. J&R is the oldest and one of the most famous remaining kosher meat shops in Montreal. The store delivers its meat throughout Quebec and Ontario, and ships throughout the rest of Canada. History Shortly after immigrating to Canada from Romania, Nemes worked in a meat packing house during the day and at Schwartz's at night. He used his savings and a $400 loan to launch the business. Miracle Mart
Miracle Mart was a chain of discount department stores with locations in Ontario and Quebec, Canada based in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. The chain was renamed to simply M in the mid-1980s. History The company was founded in early 1961 as Miracle Mart Limited by Montreal-based grocery chain Steinberg's. Later in the year, Steinberg's associated itself with Vancouver-based chain Woodward's. They opened their first store on October 11, 1961, in Pont-Viau under the trade name of Woodward Steinberg. A second store with the same trademark opened in November 1961 at the Place Greenfield Park shopping centre. The partnership between Steinberg's and Woodward ended in 1962 due to differences of opinions, and the two Woodward Steinberg stores were converted to the Miracle Mart name. The T. Eaton Company Limited, later known as Eaton's, was a Canadian department store chain that was once the largest in the country. It was founded in 1869 in Toronto by Timothy Eaton, an immigrant from what is now Northern Ireland. ''Rabid'' is a 1977 independent body horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg. An international co-production of Canada and the United States, the film stars Marilyn Chambers in the lead role, supported by Frank Moore, Joe Silver, and Howard Ryshpan. Chambers plays a woman who, after being injured in a motorcycle accident and undergoing a surgical operation, develops an orifice under one of her armpits that hides a phallic/clitoral stinger she uses to feed on people's blood.
