Lazy Bums
"Shir Habatlanim" ( he, label= Hebrew script, שיר הבטלנים; "The Bums' Song") was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1987. It was performed in Hebrew by the comedic duo ( he, הבטלנים, HaBatlanim, links=no) and came 8th, scoring 73 points. It was the subject of a resignation threat by the Israeli Minister of Culture. Music, act, and lyrics The act consisted of two actors, and Avi Kushnir, dressed in black suits and ties in the style of the Blues Brothers, who performed alone in a talking style presentation, accompanied by a minimalist orchestra score conducted by a similarly attired conductor. The two men danced in unison, with coordinated arm and feet shuffling, walking across the stage which at times descended into chaotic flailing, pulling faces and a handstand. Avi Kushnir
Abraham Yeshayahu (Avi) Kushnir ( he, אבי קושניר, born 26 August 1960) is an Israeli comedian, actor and host. Early life During high school Kushnir studied at the youth village HaKfar HaYarok. Afterwards, during his mandatory military service, Kushnir served in an Infantry unit. After his army service Kushnir worked as a stagehand and later on began directing plays. Career His professional career as an actor began in the early 1980s when he began performing in stand-up shows. In 1985 Kushnir hosted the Festigal, an annual Israeli singing show alongside Gadi Yagil. Norway was represented by Kate Gulbrandsen, with the song "Mitt liv", at the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 9 May in Brussels. "Mitt liv" was chosen as the Norwegian entry at the Melodi Grand Prix on 28 February. Before Eurovision Melodi Grand Prix 1987 The MGP was held at the Château Neuf in Oslo, hosted by Eldbjørg Vaage. Ten songs took part in the final, with the winner chosen by voting from seven regional juries. Other participants included 1981 Norwegian entrant Finn Kalvik and Tor Endresen, making the first of seven appearances at MGP before finally being successful on his eighth attempt in 1997. At Eurovision On the night of the final Gulbrandsen performed first in the running order, preceding Israel. Yitzhak Rachamim Navon ( he, יצחק נבון; 9 April 1921 – 6 November 2015) was an Israeli politician, diplomat, playwright, and author. Kate Gulbrandsen (born 6 August 1965 in Slemmestad) is a Norwegian singer. In 1986 she represented Norway at the Yamaha Song Festival in Tokyo with the song "Carnival". She won the Norwegian national final Melodi Grand Prix 1987 in a very close regional vote, giving her the opportunity to compete for Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 1987 with the song " Mitt liv" (My Life), written by Rolf Løvland and Hanne Krogh. She went on to place ninth overall. Gulbrandsen tried to represent Norway again in 1989, singing "Nærhet" (Closeness) at the Melodi Grand Prix, although was unplaced. He composed and conducted the winning entry at the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest ''Hallelujah'' sung by the vocal ensemble Milk and Honey. Biography Yaakov (Kobi) Ventura (later Kobi Oshrat) was born in Haifa to parents who had immigrated from Salonika. After an early career on the Israeli stage, in 1969 he began composing and arranging music for radio, TV, film and advertisements. Biography Izhar Cohen was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and raised in Givatayim, to a family of singers of Yemenite-Jewish descent – Shlomo Cohen, Sarah Cohen, and Hofni, Pini, and Vardina Cohen.
