Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery
The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery is an on-campus art gallery at the University of Western Australia in Crawley. History The gallery was established in July 1990. Description It is supported by a "friends of" organisation. It contains collections, including the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art, and has hosted a range of exhibitions across a wide scope of artistic practices. The building is also shared by the Berndt Museum. The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a public research university in the Australian state of Western Australia. Crawley, Western Australia
Crawley is an affluent western suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Whole area is part of the local government area of the City of Perth and previously shared between the City of Subiaco and City of Perth. It is about from the Perth CBD via Mounts Bay Road. The earlier name of the locality was Crawley Park. It was named by an early landowner Henry Charles Sutherland, whose mother's maiden name was Crawley. Cruthers Collection Of Women's Art
Cruthers Collection of Women's Art is a collection of more than 700 artworks by Australian women, held at the University of Western Australia. It is the only public collection focused on women's art in Australia. The Cruthers Collection was founded in 2007 following the donation by Sir James and Lady Sheila Cruthers of some 400 artworks and is named in recognition of their gift. The collection includes artworks by Australian women artists from the 1890s to the present day, with Australian modernism, feminist and contemporary art being represented. There is a focus on "the artist and her work", where a portrait or self-portrait of an artist is supported by a non-portrait example of their work. As of May 2019 there were 700 works in the collection. The Berndt Museum of Anthropology is an anthropological museum in Perth, Western Australia, founded in by Ronald Berndt and Catherine Berndt. Abdul-Rahman Abdullah
Abdul-Rahman Abdullah (born 1977) is an Australian artist based in Western Australia, an elder brother of artist Abdul Abdullah. He works mainly in sculpture and art installation, installations. Early life and education Abdul-Rahman Abdullah was born in 1977 at Port Kembla, New South Wales. He is an elder brother of Abdul Abdullah (born 1986) Their mother is Malay (ethnic group), Malay, while their father is Anglo-Australian, and the family is Muslim. Abdullah is a 7th-generation Australian on his father's side, whose ancestors arrived on the ''Indefatigable (1799), Indefatigable'' (a convict ship) in 1815. Both of his grandfathers fought in the Second World War. After school he worked at a variety of jobs, as well as enrolling in and dropping out of various college and university courses, before he realised that art could be a profession. The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is a public art gallery that is part of the Perth Cultural Centre, in Perth. It is located near the Western Australian Museum and State Library of Western Australia and is supported and managed by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries of the Government of Western Australia.
