Lawrence Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio
Lawrence Township is one of the twenty-two townships of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 5,241 people in the township, 4,154 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Geography Located in the northern part of the county, it borders the following townships: * Pike Township, Stark County - northeast * Sandy Township - east * Fairfield Township - southeast * Dover Township - south * Franklin Township - west * Bethlehem Township, Stark County - northwest Two villages are located in Lawrence Township: Bolivar in the north, and Zoar in the east. The census-designated place of Wilkshire Hills occupies the northeast corner of the township, between Bolivar and Zoar. Tuscarawas River
The Tuscarawas River is a principal tributary of the Muskingum River, 129.9 miles (209 km) long, in northeastern Ohio in the United States. Via the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of on glaciated and unglaciated portions of the Allegheny Plateau. Route The river rises southwest of Hartville in northern Stark County, and initially flows westward, through Uniontown into southern Summit County, where it passes through the Portage Lakes area south of Akron, and Barberton. Wilkshire Hills, Ohio
Wilkshire Hills is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. The CDP is on the northern edge of Tuscarawas County, in the northeast corner of Lawrence Township. It is bordered to the northwest by the village of Bolivar, to the south by the village of Zoar, to the east by Sandy Township, and to the north by Pike Township and Bethlehem Township in Stark County. Wilkshire Golf Course is in the western part of the CDP. Ohio State Route 212 passes through the community, leading northwest into Bolivar and southeast to Sherrodsville. Interstate 77 passes just to the northwest of Wilkshire Hills, with access from Exit 93 (Bolivar). I-77 leads north to Canton and south the same distance to Dover. Zoar, Ohio
Zoar is a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 169 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1817 by Radical Pietists as a utopian Christian community, which survived until 1898. Much of the village's early layout survives, as do many buildings from its utopian origins. Most of the community was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 as the Zoar Historic District, and was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2016. Some of the historic buildings are now operated as museum properties. Bolivar, Ohio
Bolivar (, rhymes with Oliver) is a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 994 at the 2010 census. Bolivar is also home to Fort Laurens, the only American Revolutionary War-era fort in what is now Ohio. History Shingas, a Delaware Indian leader, established a village known as Shingas Town in the general vicinity of present Bolivar in 1752. In 1778, Fort Laurens was built in this same area. Bolivar itself was platted in 1830 as part of the growth occasioned by the development of the Ohio and Erie Canal. The community was named after Simón Bolívar.
