Lawrence T. Harris
Lawrence T. Harris (September 13, 1873 – January 21, 1960) was an American politician and lawyer in the state of Oregon. He was the 45th justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, serving from 1914 to 1924. An a native Oregonian, he also served as a state court judge and in 1903 was the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives. After leaving the state's highest court he returned to private practice in Eugene, Oregon. ''The Oregon Journal'' was Portland, Oregon's daily afternoon newspaper from 1902 to 1982. The ''Journal'' was founded in Portland by C. S. "Sam" Jackson, publisher of Pendleton, Oregon's ''East Oregonian'' newspaper, after a group of Portlanders convinced Jackson to help in the reorganization of the ''Portland Evening Journal.'' In law, the bar is the legal profession as an institution. The term is a metonym for the line (or "bar") that separates the parts of a courtroom reserved for spectators and those reserved for participants in a trial such as lawyers.
