Lawrence Pereira
Flt Lt Lawrence Frederic Pereira (10 June 1945 – 14 December 1971) was an Indian air force officer. He was the recipient of the Vir Chakra, India's gallantry award presented for acts of bravery in the battlefield. Air Force career Pereira began his training on 10 March 1963 at Air Force Administrative College in Coimbatore. He was commissioned on 10 August 1964, in the 80/90th Pilots course. Lawrie attended several training programs, courses and posting. The first posting to a fighter squadron after his commissioning was to No. 220 Squadron IAF, No.220 Squadron at Pune. He actively participated in 1965 India-Pakistan War, 1965 war with Pakistan. After this he was posted to a Gnat Fighter Unit. He was promoted to Flight Lieutenant in 1968 and trained on the Sukhoi Su-7, Sukhoi-7 beginning in 1970. He was posted to Adampur Air Force Base and later to No. 26 Squadron IAF. Flight lieutenant is a junior commissioned rank in air forces that use the Royal Air Force (RAF) system of ranks, especially in Commonwealth countries. It has a NATO rank code of OF-2. Operation Cactus-Lilly
Meghna Heli Bridge, codenamed Operation Cactus Lilly, was an aerial operation of the Indian Air Force during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, commencing India's involvement in Bangladesh Liberation War. It took place on 9 December, when the Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted the IV Corps of the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini fighters from Brahmanbaria to Raipura in Narsingdi over the River Meghna, bypassing the destroyed Meghna Bridge and Pakistani defences in Ashuganj. The Sukhoi Su-7 ( NATO designation name: Fitter-A) is a swept wing, supersonic fighter aircraft developed by the Soviet Union in 1955. Originally, it was designed as a tactical, low-level dogfighter, but was not successful in this role. On the other hand, the soon-introduced Su-7B series became the main Soviet fighter-bomber and ground-attack aircraft of the 1960s. 1965 India-Pakistan War
The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 or the Second Kashmir War was a culmination of skirmishes that took place between April 1965 and September 1965 between Pakistan and India.
