Lawrence Garvie
Lawrence R. Garvie (June 23, 1933 – March 11, 2011) was a lawyer and former politician in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented the City of Fredericton and then Fredericton North in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1968 to 1978 as a Progressive Conservative member. He was born in Westmount, Quebec, the son of Gordon S. Garvie and Helen Carten, and educated in Fredericton and at the University of New Brunswick. In 1960, he married Valerie Bennetts. He was first elected to the provincial assembly in a 1968 by-election held after the death of John F. McInerney. Garvie served as speaker for the assembly from 1971 to 1972. New Brunswick (french: Nouveau-Brunswick, , locally ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is one of the three Maritime provinces and one of the four Atlantic provinces. It is the only province with both English and French as its official languages. The Bricklin SV-1 is a two-seat sports car built from 1974 until late 1975. The car was noteworthy for its gull-wing doors and composite bodywork of color-impregnated acrylic resin bonded to fiberglass. Assembly took place in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The name ''SV-1'' is an abbreviation of "safety vehicle one". Bricklin company literature uses both the ''SV-1'' and ''SV1'' formats. To promote the car's safety bona fides, the company touted such features as its integrated roll-over structure and energy-absorbing bumpers. It was charged with the enforcement of labour standards and facilitating relations between employers and employees in New Brunswick. This department was separated from the Department of Health in 1944. The department was renamed Labour and Human Resources in 1983 and then Labour and Manpower in 1985.
