Victoria Park, Leamington Spa
Victoria Park is a public park in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England. It is situated about half a mile (800 m) west of the town centre and is on the south bank of the River Leam. The total area of the park as it stands today is . History & Features Up until the 1830s the park was just part of farmland on the edge of the growing spa town. It was at that time that one of the local land owning families, the Willes, began to hold archery competitions on the land. In the middle of the nineteenth century Leamington Cricket club made their first home there and in the 1860s the New Riverside Walk was opened. The park was extensively landscaped and redesigned in 1899 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Before the Royal Show moved to Stoneleigh Park one of its venues was Victoria Park. Lauren Suzanne Baillie-Whyte (born 1982) formerly Lauren Baillie is a Scottish international lawn bowler. Biography Baillie won a bronze medal in the pairs at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch with bowls partner Lesley Doig. She also won the Scottish National Bowls Championships pairs title on four occasions with her sister Leanne Baillie in 2009, 2011, 2012 & 2013 bowling for Cockenzie & Port Seton. Claire Johnston (born 22 February 1979) is a Scottish international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Johnston is from Irvine, North Ayrshire, in Scotland and won a bronze medal in the pairs at the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Margaret Letham. In 2011 she won the pairs gold medal and singles bronze medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and four years later she won the fours gold medal at the 2015 Atlantic Bowls Championships. Johnston gained major indoor honours when winning the mixed pairs title at the 2017 World Indoor Bowls Championship with Nick Brett of England. Hannah Smith (born 14 July 1986) is a Scottish and former Welsh international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Smith from Carmarthen won the fours gold medal at the 2009 Atlantic Bowls Championships. She then won a bronze medal in the pairs at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and two years later won another bronze in the triples at the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Adelaide. Smith later represented Scotland and in 2019 she won the Scottish National Bowls Championships pairs title with Claire Johnston.
