Lavezares, officially the Municipality of Lavezares ( war, Bungto han Lavezares; tl, Bayan ng Lavezares), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 29,390 people. It is bounded on the west by the municipality of Allen, on the north-west by San Bernardino Strait, on the south and south-west by the municipality of Victoria, on the east by the municipality of Rosario and on the north by the municipality of Biri. History Lavezares was just a visita during the late 19th century. In this period of time, Barobaybay, Villa and MacArthur served as the oldest pueblos of the old municipality. During the Spanish period, Lavezares was controlled by secular priests. It was named in honor of the Spanish Governor-General Guido de Lavezares who helped them become separated from the Municipality of Allen, and be an independent municipality. Guido De Lavezaris
Guido de Lavezaris (c. 1512 – d. 1581) was the second Spanish Governor General of the Philippines. He succeeded Miguel López de Legazpi in 1572 as governor, and was succeeded by Francisco de Sande on August 25, 1575. Early life Little was known of Governor-General Lavezares. In 1543, he became a member of the Villalobos Expedition that traveled to the Philippines. He became the royal treasurer of the expedition during the navigation. Allen, officially the Municipality of Allen ( war, Bungto han Allen; tl, Bayan ng Allen), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 25,228 people. It is located on the northwestern tip of the province, bordering the municipality of Victoria to the south, the municipality of Lavezares to the east, and the strategic San Bernardino Strait to both the north and west. Biri, Northern Samar
Biri, officially the Municipality of Biri ( war, Bungto han Biri; tl, Bayan ng Biri), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 11,274 people. The archipelagic town is also known for its ''inakob'', a traditional Waray dish made by first cooking grated root crops (''gabi'') with coconut milk, condensed milk, eggs, brown sugar, and an herb called ''anuv''. Once cooked, the grated ''gabi'' is put inside ''gabi'' shells which have been peeled. The dish is then boiled with coconut milk.
