Laval Wilson
Laval Steele Wilson is an American educator who served as superintendent of the Berkeley Unified School District, the Rochester City School District, Boston Public Schools, Paterson Public Schools, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, East Orange School District, and the Poughkeepsie City School District. He was Rochester and Boston's first black superintendent. Early life Wilson grew up in Chicago. Both of his parents were teachers and he was raised by his mother, Emma Dee Steele, after his father, Edward DeSoto Wilson, died when Wilson was five years old. He graduated from Chicago Teachers College in 1958 and earned a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Chicago in 1962 and a PhD in educational administration from Northwestern University in 1967. Berkeley Unified School District
The Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) is the public school district for the city of Berkeley, California, United States. The district is managed by the Superintendent of Schools, and governed by the Berkeley Board of Education, whose members are elected by voters. Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a retrovirus. Lois Harrison-Jones
Lois Harrison-Jones is an American school administrator and academic who served as superintendent of Richmond Public Schools and Boston Public Schools. She was the first female superintendent in Richmond and the first black female superintendent in Virginia and Boston. Early life Harrison-Jones was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. She earned degrees from Virginia State College, Temple University, and Virginia Tech. Career Harrison-Jones began her teaching career in 1954 as a sixth-grade teacher and worked her way up through the Richmond Public School system to the position of assistant superintendent for elementary education. In 1985 she was chosen to succeed Richard Hunter as Richmond's superintendent of schools. At the time of her appointment she was one of only 24 black women superintendents in the United States, the first black female superintendent in Virginia, and the first female superintendent in Richmond. Robert Lee Rayford (February 3, 1953 – May 15 1969), sometimes identified as Robert R. due to his age, was an American teenager from Missouri who has been suggested to represent the earliest confirmed case of HIV/AIDS in North America based on evidence which was published in 1988 in which the authors claimed that medical evidence indicated that he was "infected with a virus closely related or identical to human immunodeficiency virus type 1." Rayford died of pneumonia, but his other symptoms baffled the doctors who treated him. A study published in 1988 reported the detection of antibodies against HIV. Results of testing for HIV genetic material were reported once at a scientific conference in Australia in 1999; however, the data has never been published in a peer-reviewed medical or scientific journal.
