Jean Ray Laury (March 22, 1928 – March 2, 2011) was an American artist and designer. She was one of the first fine artists to move to quilting as a medium of choice in the late 1950s. Her quilts followed neither traditional method nor pattern; they were bold, modern, colorful collages, often laced with humor and satire. Penning over twenty books and teaching over 2,000 workshops, Laury helped women see the creative possibilities in everyday objects and awake their sense of inspiration. Laury has been called a "foremother of a quilt revival", and "one of the pioneers" of non-traditional quilts. A lance is a spear designed to be used by a mounted warrior or cavalry soldier (lancer). In ancient and medieval warfare, it evolved into the leading weapon in cavalry charges, and was unsuited for throwing or for repeated thrusting, unlike similar weapons of the javelin and pike family typically used by infantry. William Laury Greene (October 3, 1849 – March 11, 1899) was an American Populist Party politician. He served in the United States House of Representatives from Nebraska from 1897 until his death. Early life and career Greene was born in Pike County, Indiana, and raised on a farm in Dubois County. He worked on the family farm while attending school, and graduated from Ireland Academy. He taught school while studying law, and attained admission to the bar in 1876.
