Lauriston is a locality in Victoria, Australia. It is situated on the Coliban River, in a gully west of Kyneton. The Lauriston Reservoir, (which serves Kyneton), is south east of the town. At the , Lauriston had a population of 236. Lauriston Post Office opened on 1 July 1864 after gold was discovered in the area and closed in 1969. In 2019 Australian folk musician, Alana Wilkinson Alana Joy Wilkinson (born 1991) is an Australian folk music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She released her first single in late 2018. Electoral District Of Macedon
The electoral district of Macedon is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was created in 2002, replacing the abolished electorate of Gisborne. It was won at that election by Joanne Duncan, the former member for Gisborne. She was re-elected in 2006 and 2010, and retired at the 2014 election, at which she was succeeded by Labor candidate Mary-Anne Thomas. Kyneton, Victoria
Kyneton ( ) is a town in the Macedon Ranges region of Victoria, Australia. The Calder Freeway bypasses Kyneton to the north and east. Kyneton is on Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country. The town has four main streets: Mollison Street, Main street, Piper Street and High Street. Piper Street has the oldest streetscape of these, and still has many of its original buildings. The railway station, about from Melbourne on the Bendigo railway line, is a terminus for two weekday peak-hour trains. The town is the council seat of the Shire of Macedon Ranges. Tylden is a town in central Victoria, Australia in the Shire of Macedon Ranges local government area, north-west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Tylden has a population of 535. Tylden is on Dja Dja Wurrung country. History Tylden Post Office opened on 7 January 1860. Notable RAAF pilot Joe Hewitt was born here. Today Tylden is home to the large Woodside Park Stud thoroughbred racehorse pre-training facility established at a cost of A$20m. The training facility was strongly opposed by residents over many years of public matters. Woodend () is a town in Victoria, Australia. The town is in the Shire of Macedon Ranges local government area on Dja Dja Wurrung country and is bypassed to the east and north by the Calder Freeway (M79), located about halfway between Melbourne and Bendigo. At the , Woodend had a population of 5,806. History Woodend was first surveyed in 1836 by Major Thomas Mitchell, who opened it up for settlement. When gold was discovered in the area (towards Bendigo and Ballarat), Woodend became the main thoroughfare through the Black Forest, and accommodated many gold-diggers and their families. Woodend Post Office opened on the 20th of July 1854, however it closed shortly after, only to be reopened in one of the citizen's homes. The Woodend Magistrates' Court closed on 1 January 1983. Coliban River
The Coliban River, an inland perennial river of the northcentral catchment, part of the Murray-Darling basin, is located in the lower Riverina bioregion and Central Highlands region of the Australian state of Victoria. The headwaters of the Coliban River rise on the northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and descend to flow north into the Campaspe River with the impounded Lake Eppalock. The river is a major water supply source for towns and cities in the lower Central Highlands region. Lauriston Reservoir
Lauriston Reservoir is a reservoir in Victoria, Australia, with a maximum capacity of 19,800 megalitres. The dam that created it, located 9 km west of Kyneton along Lauriston Reservoir Road, was constructed from 1938 to 1941 and has a spillway that measures 77 metres. The site is a popular picnic ground as one can fish there (although not from the dam structure itself), and barbecue facilities are available. The reservoir is known to contain redfin perch, rainbow and brown trout, roach and cod.
